**Oyateki Student Advisor**:
The Office of the Vice Provost, Indigenous Engagement works within and outside the university to meet the unique needs of Indigenous students, staff, faculty and communities and uplift Indigenization by advancing initiatives and strategies that promotes Indigenous Knowledges and supports reconciliation and decolonization.

**Primary Purpose**: The Oyateki Partnership aspires to lead and facilitate transformation to change the lives of Indigenous youth for the better. This collaborative body is comprised of represents from the University of Saskatchewan (USask), Gabriel Dumont Institute and Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies. The Oyateki Student Advisor, Indigenous Engagement will respond to the needs of USask Indigenous students by working with the Office of the Vice Provost, Indigenous Engagement (OVPIE), other USask staff across various portfolios, and Oyateki Project partners.

**Nature of Work**: As a member of the Office of the Vice Provost, Indigenous Engagement team, the Oyateki Student Advisor will report directly to the Senior Strategic Officer. This position is unique at the University of Saskatchewan in that the incumbent will have a professional home within the office of the **Office of the Vice Provost, Indigenous Engagement (OVPIE),** and is directly connected to an exciting opportunity that the university is undertaking, known as the **Oyateki Partnership**. The Oyateki Partnership aspires to lead and facilitate transformation to change the lives of Indigenous youth for the better. This collaborative body is comprised of representatives from USask, Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI), and Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT). Accordingly, this position will respond to the needs of USask Indigenous students by working in collaboration with the Kahkisiw Community of Practice, other USask staff across various portfolios, and Oyateki Project partners. Additionally, this role will contribute to empowering Indigenous USask students, increasing self-efficacy, and improving systems access and navigation in post-secondary education by furthering relationships with USask stakeholders to develop research-informed programming.

The Oyateki Student Advisor provides outreach to prospective and current students through the Oyateki partnership. The Advisor works to co-create supportive pathways for Indigenous students, enhance opportunities for authentic relationship building, and provide supportive services and communication to guide Indigenous learners as they move through the learning and development cycle of post-secondary education.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:
Work in collaboration with OVPIE team members, USask stakeholders including but not limited to those in the Teaching, Learning, and Student Experience (TLSE) portfolio, and Oyateki project partners to develop, implement, and evaluate student engagement and support opportunities through Oyateki-connected projects at USask. Additionally, the Advisor will work to create interest, identify opportunities, and provide project support within Usask to support transition to post-secondary, increase positive outcomes for Indigenous learners, support successful career transition, and contribute to systems change at USask.
- Work closely with TLSE teams to provide extensive information related to USask’s services that will enhance Indigenous student access, success, and quality of learning experiences
- Research post-secondary student engagement, success, and support frameworks while conscious of the needs and strengths of Indigenous students
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify barriers and opportunities in support of Indigenous student success (academically, personally, culturally)
- Collaborate, participate, and initiate opportunities within community partner events, celebrations, and ceremonies that promote education and success of Indigenous learners
- Develop a strong relationship with colleges and schools,, TLSE units, the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (CGPS), academic departments (where relevant), and external partners
- Participate in Kahkisiw Community of Practice
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, documents, and communications related to the Oyateki Partnership
- Provide updates to the OVIPE team, the USask Oyateki Leadership, and Oyateki Project members
- Other duties as required.

**Education**: Completion of post-secondary education strongly preferred, but a combination of education and direct experience will be considered.
