**Indigenous Achievement Advisor**:
**Primary Purpose**:The Indigenous Achievement Advisor plays a critical role in the drive to improve the academic success, recruitment, retention/persistence rates, graduation rates, and overall quality of the student experience for primarily Indigenous students, as well as other student cohorts, in the Edwards School of Business. In pursuit of these aims, the Indigenous Achievement Advisor will provide specialist academic advising and coaching, mentoring, and administrative support for current and prospective students in the College. The person in this position will implement, uphold, and maintain College policies, procedures, and protocols relating to all students and Edwards School of Business in general. While advising and mentoring students, the Indigenous Achievement Advisor will evaluate student academic records and past academic experience; explore academic options and alternatives; coach students to develop solutions, strategies, and plans for academic success; and follow up periodically to assess how the students are progressing towards achieving their academic goals.

**Nature of Work**:Reporting to the Manager, Student Services, this is one of several positions offering student advising and support for current and prospective undergraduate and certificate students. This position functions independently and efficiently in a high-volume, multi-tasking environment. The position requires interactions with the Edwards School of Business Deans, Department Heads, faculty, staff, and other administrative personnel on the University of Saskatchewan campus.

**Typical Duties/Accountabilities**:

- Responsible for academic advising, interpretation, maintenance and communication of program requirements, academic regulations, graduation standards, and academic policies.
- Coordinate and instruct the required zero-credit academic skills courses in the Indigenous Business Administration Certificate (IBAC) program.
- Coordinate retention initiatives for Indigenous business students to increase engagement including Bannock Chats, cultural workshops, and Indigenous Student Graduation.
- Connect Indigenous students with support services provided by Rawlinson funding including scholarships and awards, co-curricular funding, tutoring, emergency financial assistance, referrals, etc.
- Coordinate with Undergraduate Retention Advisor on Edwards Indigenous Learning Community implementation and provide oversight to Indigenous Peer Mentors.
- Support and participate in targeted Indigenous recruitment activities representing Edwards.
- Membership on University Committees: Academic Advisors and Indigenous Advisory Circle.
- Provide on-going support to the other academic advisors, Manager of Student Services, Rawlinson Centre Coordinator, and other duties as required.

**Qualifications**
**Education**:Four-year undergraduate degree is required. Bachelor of Commerce is considered an asset.

**Experience**:A minimum of three years of university level experience working with undergraduate students and in the educational process is preferred. Experience in working with university personnel from various academic and non-academic units is also desirable. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A knowledge of diverse Indigenous social, cultural, and economic contexts particularly as it relates to barriers to post-secondary education is preferred.

**Skills**:

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience presenting to groups of all sizes.
- Proven event planning skills and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in informal and formal teams with people from diverse communities, cultures, and perspectives.
- Contributes to a positive, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment by actively engaging in mentoring, self-awareness learning opportunities, relationship building, and communication, etc.
- Experience with Banner/SiRIUS desired.
- Knowledge of the Bachelor of Commerce program desired.
