**Manager, Undergraduate Student Academic Advising**:
**Primary Purpose**: Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Advising (DUSA), the Manager of Undergraduate Student Academic Advising (MUSAA) plays a critical role in the drive to support the academic success and overall experience of undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Science. The Manager of Undergraduate Student Academic Advising position is also crucial in leading and managing the intentional design and comprehensive delivery of best advising practices in the Undergraduate Student Office (UGSO) of the College of Arts and Science. The Manager of Undergraduate Student Academic Advising (MUSAA) in collaboration with the Manager of Undergraduate Academic Policies and Outreach will provide administrative leadership, operational management and support for advisors and student peer advisors in the UGSO.

**Nature of Work**:Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Advising (DUSA), the Manager of Undergraduate Student Academic Advising (MUSAA):

- Advise students and provides direct leadership, training, supervision, and support to Academic advisors and student peer advisors in the UGSO.
- Supports the design and implementation of best advising practices in the Undergraduate Student Office (UGSO) in line with the college’s commitment to advising based on the holistic, pro-active, student-first, case-management principles as set forth in the University Advising Charter.
- Provides strategic advice on all matters relating to academic advising to the Director of Student Advising and other senior administrative leaders of the College of Arts and Science.
- Supports Undergraduate Chairs and departmental advisors in providing academic advising to students at the departmental level.
- Works closely with other student support specialists at the University of Saskatchewan.
- Participates in the recruitment and retention of students in the College of Arts and Science.
- Demonstrates leadership in promoting and actively participating in events and communities that involve professional education and networking activities for academic advisors. This includes active membership in the Advising Association of Saskatchewan (AASK) and NACADA.
- Demonstrates empathetic leadership skills as well as conviction when making difficult decisions and/or communicating information.
- Exerts influence on the student experience and impacts the reputation of the UGSO, the College and the University.
- Performs in a high-pressure environment. The standard of the quality of work and timely completion of projects is high, as is the cost of every error.
- Is an effective team-lead for advisors who cultivates, nurtures, and promotes a positive work environment.
- Works in collaboration with all other managers and their teams in the UGSO.

**Accountabilities**
- Analyze and report advising statistics to the Director of Undergraduate Student Advising to support policy and decision making.
- Provides one-on-one and group advising to undergraduate students.
- Interprets and communicates degree regulations and requirements, and academic policies of the College of Arts and Science to advisors and students.
- Responds to daily and emergent issues relating to efficient academic advising in a high-volume, multi-tasking environment; works with unpredictable and highly confidential information and events in a sensitive and timely manner; and can deal with advisors and student emergencies as they arise.
- Ensures that academic advisors maintain student records in a secure and carefully prescribed fashion, enhancing the holistic advising perspective.
- Identifies, promotes, and supports professional development opportunities for academic advisors.
- Ensures advisors maintain a high levels of standards of practice, including preparing, assessing, and evaluating advisors such that students receive the academic services that they require timely.
- Engage student organizations in collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships.
- Encourage advisors to participate in activities leading to increased intercultural awareness and competencies.
- Manages the onboarding, orientation, training, and development, coaching and performance feedback, performance improvement and disciplinary matters as appropriate, and offboarding processes for academic advisors in the college.
- Identifies and promotes opportunities for collaboration in advising between the UGSO, departments and other units on campus and beyond.
- Coordinates efficient and effective models of academic advising, including group advising, and develops innovative strategies
