**Exam Program Advisor**:
**Primary Purpose**: Under guidance from University of Saskatchewan policy and Saskatchewan Human Rights legislation, the Exam Program Advisor is responsible, along with faculty, for providing reasonable accommodations for students who experience barriers to their education on the basis of a prohibited ground(s), including disability, religion, family status, and gender identity.

Working closely with the Exam Program Coordinator and other members of the Access & Equity Services Exam Program team, the Exam Program Advisor provides orientation, advice and assistance to students, instructors and staff regarding exam accommodations and academic integrity in order to ensure that students are supported appropriately and that academic integrity and University policies are upheld.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting directly to the Manager of Access & Equity Services (AES), the Exam Program Advisor is one of a team responsible for determination and facilitation of services, and accommodations to U of S students who qualify for reasonable accommodations and supports as outlined in Saskatchewan Human Rights legislation.

This is a high volume position in a fast-paced environment with high traffic and frequent interruptions. Unexpected situations and problems occur frequently and must be resolved on the spot using specialized knowledge of disability issues, U of S Policies and Procedures and Human Rights Legislation.

There is frequent interaction with students who have complex physical, psychological, permanent and temporary disabilities. Considerable discretion is required as the position works with highly confidential medical information and all situations must be handled in accordance to the Health Information Privacy Act.

**Accountabilities**:

- Provides orientation, advice, and assistance to registered students on how to access AES services and programs, encouraging self-reliance and self-advocacy
- Acts as a resource, providing direction and guidance, to staff (including other AES staff) and faculty to ensure that stakeholders have appropriate knowledge of AES policy and procedures.
- Registers students who require accommodations for religious reasons, following established protocols and advises those students on accessing AES services
- Provides assistance, advice and guidance to the Exam Program’s full-time clerical and recurring relief staff
- Manages and troubleshoots a myriad of daily issues including disability-related concerns, exam irregularities, academic integrity, technological failures, and crisis situations
- Assists with walk-in inquiries when on campus
- Provides assistance with the AES Exam Coordinator’s duties, as required
- Deftly handles shifting priorities, multiple strict daily deadlines, multi-tasking, and problem-solving to ensure exam accommodations are finalized in time and students’ academic success is not compromised
- Contributes to AES vision, goals, and team projects
- May also include other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**

**Experience**: Five to ten years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities and other protected categories with a preference to those with working experience in a disability or human rights setting in a post-secondary institution. A strong understanding of human rights legislation and protected categories. An excellent working knowledge in a wide variety of adult disability related issues (including academic issues) and a sound working knowledge of the post-secondary setting ; Experience working in settings that may require dealing with upset and agitated individuals and individuals with communication difficulties is required

- Must possesses a strong technical aptitude, comfortable with all forms of technology (particularly desktops, laptops, and wireless networking systems) and with learning new software programs
- A commitment to the objective of empowerment, integration and inclusion and the capacity to work in a constantly evolving area
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to exercise patience, tact, good judgment, diplomacy, and the ability to negotiate complex situations in a calm and persuasive manner
- Must have exceptional analytical and team building skills with demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently, displaying flexibility, sensitivity, creativity, a high degree of initiative and foster a cooperative work environment
