The Partnership and Indigenous Engagement Division is responsible for engaging with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people of British Columbia on systemic child welfare issues, including jurisdiction and governance. Working closely within the Division and with other areas of the Ministry of Children and Family Development, you will represent the ministry in discussions with Indigenous Governing Bodies and First Nations on several types of agreements and critical issues while ensuring the image, credibility and positions of the provincial government are maintained. The Division works closely with key Indigenous partners, other ministries, and the federal government and on emerging child welfare related issues and projects that affect Indigenous children, youth, and families.

Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Partnerships & Agreements, and operating with a moderate level of independence, the position negotiates and manages the development and maintenance of agreements regarding Indigenous child and family services with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, as well as Indigenous organizations and communities in BC. The position supports the Director, Indigenous Partnerships & Agreements with the development of Community Agreements pursuant to section 92.1(2) of the CFCSA, including leading the development of agreements. The position also has responsibility for the negotiation and management of delegation agreements. Delegation agreements enable the provision of legal authority to non-government staff to exercise legislatively mandated authority under the Child Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA).

**Job Requirements**:

- Degree in a related discipline (e.g. social work, social sciences, law, public administration, business administration); and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e. Diploma in a relevant discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience*).

Related Work Experience* must include all of the following:

- Experience working with Indigenous Child and Family Services Agencies and/or Indigenous service providers and communities.
- Experience in a supervisory/management position.
- Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

- Experience in negotiation and/or mediation with Indigenous communities and a general understanding of conflict resolution processes and theory.
- Experience in the development and/or analysis of legislation, regulation and policy that affects Indigenous people and/or communities.
- Who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
- Master’s Degree in a related discipline.

Willingness:

- Occasional travel within British Columbia may be required.
