Manager - Administrative

As a key member of the BU Controllership team, the **Manager - Administrative** has primary responsibilities for performing all Controllership related activities. This includes but is not limited to maintain, manage, and analyze financial statements; ensure compliance with accounting standards (Canadian and US GAAP), company policies, and regulations and provide comprehensive financial updates to BU financial leadership by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points.
**This position is** located at the Flexibles Plant in Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada.
**What you’ll be doing**:
**Execute the following processes**:
- Record to Report (e.g., General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Variance Analysis)
- Procure to Pay
- Balance sheet review & reconciliations
- Inventory / Cost Accounting
- External/Internal Audits
- Statutory reporting
**Financial Reporting & Analysis**
- Prepare financial reports for the plant, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Report financial data to be reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Execute processes including, but not limited to: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger (e.g., review and approve manual journal entries, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements), fixed assets, and necessary support for treasury and tax/trade compliance including variance analysis.
- Manage the overall monthly close process for the plant.
**Cost Management**
- Report the costs associated with the plant, highlight cost trends, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Support the partnerships with other functions to ensure that expenses are aligned with overall business strategy.
- Recommend and lead financial process improvement initiatives that benefit the plant, the BU and Sonoco.
**Internal Controls**
- Execute the internal control systems within the plant to ensure effectiveness and compliance with company policies and regulations.
**Business Partnering**
- Support the partnerships with other functions within the organization, including sales, marketing, and operations, to provide financial support and guidance.
- Other Ad-hoc projects and duties, as assigned.
**People Management**
- Oversee the Accountant’s daily tasks and duties. Identify and report any performance challenges as well as act as a mentor and career development partner.
**We’d love to hear from you if you possess the following skills and educational requirements**:
**Business**:
- Knowledge of Sonoco’s operations across business units and functional areas to partner across the business (can learn).
**Technical**:
- Understanding of financial accounting rules (Canada/US GAAP) and policy, and the ability to implement internal controls that ensure compliance at the highest levels.
- Ability to complete routine accounting activities with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to develop detailed accounting deliverables.
- Excellent computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office products, Oracle (or other ERP), and financial consolidation systems such as OneStream or HFM.
**Relationships**:
- Strong communication skills both orally and in writing, **in both English and French**:
- Strong collaboration and relationship management skills to complete close activities.
- Able to manage deliverables independently.
- Demonstrate exceptional planning, interpersonal and communication skills.
**Education Required**:
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
- Master’s in Accountancy or MBA and/or CPA/CA/CMA would be an asset.
**Experience**:
- Minimum 7 years in an operational Controllership role.
- Relevant experience working in a manufacturing business environment is required.
- Experience in a professional environment, executing tasks and delivering efficiency.
