**The opportunity**:
The Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba is looking for a Graduate Program Assistant. This position will play a crucial role in supporting the Graduate Chair and Council as well as the Department Head in administering the Indigenous Studies Graduate Program. The Graduate Program Assistant position entails various responsibilities including assisting with administrative tasks, coordinating course organization, managing room booking, aiding in special events, and promoting the Indigenous Studies Graduate program.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
- Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institution required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- 3 years of directly related administrative experience required.
- Experience working in post-secondary institution is preferred.
- Experience working with First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities or organizations is preferred.
- Knowledge of the current context, demographics and needs of Indigenous students is preferred.
- Knowledge of Graduate Program administration.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Strong time management and organizational skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationship with faculty, staff, students and the public required.
- Proven ability to working within a culturally diverse environment required.
- Ability to work independently.
- A self-starter with the ability to take initiative as required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
- Proven ability to plan, organize and prioritize diverse tasks with attention to detail is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
