Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient
- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Director, the incumbent will perform the duties of a Project Coordinator and provide technical advice specific to their trade for the retrofit work involving Hospital and Personal Care Homes throughout the Province. The incumbent coordinates technical resolution of issues for Shared Health during planning, construction and commissioning of the various Provincial Health facility retrofit projects. The incumbent coordinates and/or provides technical support to the Service Delivery Organizations (SDO), Shared Health Fire and Life Safety Engineer (FLSE) and Provincial Fire and Life Safety Committee.
Experience
Minimum 5 years' experience in plant or facilities involving capital and maintenance projects.
Requires a thorough understanding of fire, life safety systems, including the interrelationship with other building management systems, start up, operations, life cycle and commissioning.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Degree or Diploma from a recognized engineering, technologist or technician training program including training in fire protection engineering and building and building systems construction, or an inter-provincial trade certification in one of the following trades; Plumber, Steamfitter, Sprinkler Fitter, Fire Alarm Technician or Fire Stopping Technician required.
**SPECIAL TRAINING**:
Knowledge of design process, construction process, commissioning procedures and fire life safety codes and standards specific to the healthcare facilities is a requirement. Completion of a formal and accredited training program in fire stopping (e.g. via FCIA) or fire alarm systems (e.g. via CFAA) preferred. A thorough working knowledge of construction specifications and drawings, design change directives, as-built drawings and production of Operation and Maintenance manuals is preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Must hold current certification or standing with Certified Technicians and Technologists of Manitoba as a CET, or hold a provincial certification in one or more of the following trades, plumber/sprinkler fitter, fire alarm technician or a fire stop technician and eligible to work in the Province of Manitoba.
Qualifications and Skills
Must be familiar with project design process and construction process. Must have excellent research, organizational, analytical and oral presentation skills.
Must have demonstrated ability to write brief technical reports and to review large volumes of technical details.
Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively within a large complex organization.
Must have a thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and regulations applicable to the work area.
Physical Requirements
Must have very good manual dexterity.
Position may require extended periods of intense mental and visual concentration, working with very detailed drawings and technical specifications.
Site checks may involve climbing ladders (ceiling spaces, roofs, etc.) and going into confined spaces (crawlspaces, attics, etc.).
Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the service area.
