**Manager of Operations and Community Programs - Job Description - December 2025**
- **Grants, budgeting, partnerships, and HR**:_
- Support the ED to recruit, hire, mentor, and supervise staff members
- Support the ED and Board of Directors to create and maintain the DTES NH Annual Budget
- Liaise with DTES NH Board of Directors
- Manage contracts (ie. Service contractors, grants with service provision components, property management related, etc.) as delegated by the Executive Director
- Represent the DTES NH at strategic meetings with stakeholders and take a leadership role on collaborative community initiatives
- Oversee collection of statistics on all NH programs including numbers of program participants, meals served, staffing, volunteer hours, etc., for internal use and as stipulated by funders
- Oversee DTES NH participation in Vancouver Neighbourhood Food Networks Working group
- Support the ED to coordinate and supervise student placements at DTES NH
- **Operations**:_
- Ensure building/facilities are managed and maintained in compliance with all licensing requirements and ensure safe overall operation of the House
- Ensure health and safety and security procedures are in compliance for the kitchen, staff and volunteers
- Oversee the maintenance of an orderly, organized programming space, including appropriate waste management, essential maintenance, and improvements or repairs
- Develop and update the Asset Management Plan, including a preventative maintenance schedule, and ensure plan is adhered to for proper maintenance and operations of the House
- Monitor and maintain operational policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to in all programs
- Manage IT issues, upgrades and repairs
- Update all Neighbourhood House signage as needed
- Update the NH’s Facilities Calendar, and oversee short term rental bookings of NH program space and kitchen
- Support our ongoing Renovation project (attending planning & design meetings, assisting with the preparations and execution of our move to a temporary location in Spring 2025, develop operational documents/training for staff at temporary site)
- **Programs**:_
- Oversee the smooth running of the Nutritional Outreach programs, including the monthly Banana Beat and Mobile Smoothie programs, the Community Fridge & Pantry program, and other outreach programs (i.e. weekend Meal Outreach, Emergency Heat Response, Harm Reduction, etc.)
- Mentor, and support the Community Engagement Liaison and Program Coordinators in coordinating community workshops, events, and resources for the CDI, FDI, and EYDI programs (including outreach, skills development, and community partnership building)
- Coordinate and mentor students, volunteers, staff, and peers to ensure programs are operating within the mandate of the NH Right to Food Charter and related funders
- Oversee the smooth running, set up, safety, security and staffing of all Community Kitchen projects undertaken by the NH and liaise with community groups offering similar programs at the NH
- Create and publish a monthly calendar of activities
- Liaise with program leads to ensure the facility and main venders are meeting the needs of their programs
- Be available to be onsite for additional programming for community partner’s short-term rentals of the kitchen and program space outside of weekly daytime hours (responsibility shared with the ED and other DTES NH senior staff)
- **Other aspects of the role**:_
- Advocate for the Right to Food in the community
- Ensure adherence to the DTES NH Code of conduct policies and procedures in all roles and programs
- Support the work of the Right to Food programming with outside groups, attend meetings and network with organizations with shared values
- Schedule, facilitate, and attend staff meetings as required
- Complete Incident Reports as required and work effectively, respectfully and collaboratively with staff team
- Submit cheque requisitions for reimbursement when petty cash limit is reached
- Assist staff team in planning and facilitating special events
- Write reports to funders and community groups when required
- Other duties as needed for the Neighbourhood House’s smooth operation as assigned by the Executive Director
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role working with diverse or vulnerable populations
- Experience working in the DTES and/or with Neighbourhood Houses and community-based services an asset
- Related education in social services, social work, health, administration, or education an asset
- Experience supervising staff, volunteers, and mentoring students
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft office, printers, PowerPoint, Excel, calendar management, etc.)
- Mature judgment, a sense of humour, ability to handle stress, and a “can-do attitude”
- Ability or willingness to cook great tasting, healthy, organic food
