Development Officer, Major and Corporate Gifts

**Position Summary**:
Empowerment Squared is looking for a Development Officer to join our Development and Community Engagement Division to lead the growth of our major and corporate donor portfolio and drive fundraising and corporate engagement activities, including employee giving, sponsorships, match, cause marketing, and gifts in-kind. The Development Officer is a self-starter with an aptitude and passion to build relationships with corporate, individual and community partners.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Development and Community Engagement, the Development Officer brings experience in the nonprofit sector, knowledge of the Canadian philanthropic landscape and strong relationship building skills to raise revenue and amplify the impact of Empowerment Squared’s mission.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide strategic leadership to and management of the major and corporate donor portfolio.
- Act as the point of contact and relationship manager of major and corporate donors.
- Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain a competitive position for securing major and corporate gifts.
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including research, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and funders.
- Lead organizational and third-party fundraising activities and create new initiatives to maximize revenue generation opportunities.
- Build and strengthen corporate engagement activities through employee giving, sponsorship, match, cause marketing, gifts-in-kind, as well as volunteer service.
- Create and customize donor-facing communication materials, including presentations, gift proposals and recognition plans to support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
- Develop and implement donor retention strategies.
- Develop gift agreements in alignment with organizational goals, objectives and values.
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the organization at community meetings, conferences, and other public forums.
- Nurture a culture of philanthropy by providing expertise on fundraising to and working collaboratively with colleagues to identify and execute opportunities to engage prospects and donors.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of annual operating and fundraising plans, including setting revenue targets and budgets.
- Analyze donor data and provide insight to inform effective engagement with donors, optimizing revenue growth opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with charitable regulations and other applicable laws.

**Required Qualifications and Competencies**:
- A university degree or a combination of comparable skills and experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising major and corporate gifts.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership and management experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the current philanthropic landscape, giving trends and corporate engagement practices.
- Strong solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to problem-solve, adapt and pivot.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity, accountability, honesty, and transparency.
- Proficiency in data management, analysis, and reporting.
- Proficiency in computers, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and CRM systems.
- Knowledge of Keela and HubSpot is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in creating and presenting compelling solicitation proposals to donors.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands.
- Proven ability to exercise diplomacy, professionalism and good judgment.
- Valid driver license and access to a reliable vehicle.
**Start Date**: Immediate (negotiable).
**Hours**: Full-time, 40 hours a week. This position is required to work in-person at the Empowerment Squared office in Hamilton, Ontario, and or in the community, as well as occasional evenings or weekends to accommodate program schedules. Travel may be required to attend meetings, conferences, and program events. All necessary precautions would be taken in accordance with health & safety guidelines.
**Compensation and Benefits**:
$55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience. Salary will be based on education, experience, and competencies combined with organizational capacity. Compensation package includes benefits such as health, dental, and life insurance.
