Tandia Financial Credit Union (Tandia) is seeking an experienced individual for our Risk Management and Compliance team. The Manager, Credit and Market Risk Compliance, plays an integral role behind the scenes in always ensuring compliance with our legislative and regulatory requirements. The Manager not only identifies risk factors, but with their expertise, is able to mitigate risk and allow for Tandia to meet business objectives in a strategic and methodical way.
This is currently a hybrid position and is based at our Corporate Head Office in Burlington, Ontario.
**Key Responsibilities**
Credit Risk
1. The Manager, considering Tandia’s risk appetite (ERM) and objectives, will be responsible for the assessment of credit risk of Retail, Small Business and Commercial Lending portfolios, ensuring the maintenance of credit quality and total portfolio is within the established Expected Credit Loss (ECL) allowances.
2. Review credit governance and risk oversight, including communication and monitors portfolio performance and trains and guides Commercial/Retail lenders to ensure strict adherence to policies and procedures.
3. Conducts sample post-reviews to ensure the adequacy and completeness of security documentation and loan conditions for Retail, Small Business and Commercial loans which includes but is not limited to: security coverage, liquidity, marketability and borrowing base covenants.
4. Review policy setting, authorization limits and conducts loan quality assessments to ensure identified discrepancies are escalated as appropriate and an action plan is in place for remediation.
5. Tracking and monitoring the usage of and adherence to Retail, Small Business and Commercial lending limits.
6. Develop and maintain Retail, Small Business and Commercial management information to track performance.
7. Work with risk owners to develop key monitoring and reporting metrics to identify trends, key performance indicators and risk indicators.
8. Minimize loan risks through diligent, timely and proactive financial reviews, analysis of portfolio exposures and awareness of changing economic/marketplace influences and applicable industry trends/data.
9. Maintains current market knowledge and trends within the lending and mortgage industry.
10. Monitoring of performance and lending trends, loan quality assessment, and loan loss provisions.
Market Risk
1. In conjunction with the Finance Department, identifying market risk and measuring and analyzing market risk in a variety of settings and therefore contributing to effective risk management structures and processes.
2. In conjunction with the Finance Department, ensuring that there is appropriate risk governance and risk management processes surrounding market risk, while considering the regulatory environment and requirements related to market risk.
3. Adapting to current developments and future directions in market risk management.
4. Advising on the risk characteristics of complex deals/trades and reporting market information to internal and external stakeholders.
5. Conduct ongoing quality assurance reviews over Finance Operations (Accounting, Market Risk and Treasury).
6. Completes the annual Securitization Risk Assessment, in accordance with the regulatory requirements and conducts ongoing quality assurance reviews and reporting over securitization and related processes.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of Credit Risk Management experience
- Minimum 3-5 years performing Treasury and Market Risk functions
- Experience working in financial services is considered an asset
Knowledge
- Demonstrated working knowledge and solid analytical skills in the areas of retail, small business and commercial analysis, balance sheets, cash flow mechanics, and business plans
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
- Strong understanding of regulatory environment and requirements

- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Decision-making ability and experience in data analysis
- Ability to analyze and evaluate information and report data accurately
- Effective planning and organizational skills, with the ability to adhere to strict deadlines
Other Requirements
Due to deadline and time constraints, the hours of work may extend beyond the normal work week. There can be numerous and varied responsibilities, which require constant prioritizing to ensure that all duties are completed efficiently, accurately and on a timely basis. It is a requirement of this position to be able to perform well under pressure while working towards meeting established objectives within the set timeframes.
