Wildlife Monitor

Canadian Space Services Ltd (CSS). is a growing government and industrial contractor that provides field services on radar sites throughout Canada and abroad. The work is construction-oriented and entails various installation, maintenance & repairs of radomes and antennas. CSS is looking to recruit seasonal wildlife monitors for our summer field programs at remote radar sites in the Canadian arctic.

The tentative start date for this position will be the end of June/early July.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the safety and protection of field personnel from any wildlife threats. This includes regular and active monitoring of the surrounding environment.
- Able to work daily for the duration of the scope of work in a remote location.
- Willingly and safely accompany any camp personnel during any outdoor work or activities.
- Take an active role to assist with daily activities including moving supplies, camp maintenance, cleaning, documentation, etc.
- Work with the camp supervisor, client representatives, and camp cook to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Management of attractants like garbage.

**Required Skills**:

- Proficient at handling firearms with and legal ownership of a suitable firearm for arctic wildlife protection.
- Experience with non-lethal monitoring methods would be an asset such as aversion techniques, noise and visual deterrents (e.g. bear bangers, air horns, pyrotechnics, etc.), portable electric fencing, rubber bullets, bear spray, etc.
- Must be in good physical condition, ability to walk long distances and stand on their feet for long periods of time while carrying equipment.
- Knowledge of arctic wildlife threats.
- Previous experience in a similar work setting in a remote northern environment (i.e., hunter, guide, camp safety officer, etc.)
- Experience in a construction/industrial/environmental work environment.
- Great communication and intrapersonal skills.
- Comfortable in remote field camp settings for several weeks at a time.
- Takes initiative.

Educational Requirements:

- Training in relevant courses would be an asset such as Bear Safety Training, Wildlife Awareness, etc.
- A high school education or equivalent is desired, but not required.
- Valid Canadian Possession and Acquisition License.
- First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain at the Employer’s expense.
- Willing and able to receive a federal Reliability level security clearance in Canada.
