**Your Key Responsibilities**

The primary Intermediate Ecologist responsibilities while working under the supervision of Project Managers and Senior Biologists include:

- Review and compile background natural heritage data
- Coordinate and participate in various field work programs using Stantec’s standard operating procedures and industry standard protocols with support from experienced staff. Field programs may include the following inventories and assessments:
+ Wildlife and Significant Wildlife Habitat

+ Flora identification and vegetation community characterization

+ Species at Risk and/or Species of Conservation Concern

+ Fish habitat assessments
- Fish community, benthic macroinvertebrates, sediment and water quality sampling
- Construction monitoring and effectiveness monitoring of mitigation efforts for species at risk and/or other sensitive natural heritage features
- Enter, compile, and analyze field data
- Reporting efforts will include natural heritage input to a variety of federal, provincial and municipal planning projects such as species at risk suitability assessments, environmental assessments, environmental impact studies and ecological monitoring
- Identify natural heritage related constraints to development, appropriate mitigation measures and federal, provincial and municipal approval requirements
- Occasional travel for work will include field work in remote locations, periods of intense travel during the field season and potentially during weekends
- Support operations of the Ecology Team through a variety of scheduling, planning and administrative tasks
- Participate in Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work

The primary Project Coordination tasks, working under the supervision of Project Managers:
+ Manage, prepare work plans (i.e., develop scope and budget) and oversee a variety of federal, provincial and municipal planning projects such as species at risk suitability assessments, environmental assessments, environmental impact studies and ecological monitoring

+ Manage tasks and projects according to approved scope of work and budget while delivering high-quality reports on schedule

+ Maintain, develop and foster client and regulatory relationships

+ Provide an understanding of project goals, sound environmental project advice and legislative context to external clients and internal Stantec contacts

+ Embrace and promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work

**Qualifications**

**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
- Knowledge of current federal, provincial and municipal regulatory requirements and is able to show experience with various regulators such as Environment and Climate Change Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, conservation authorities and municipalities
- Experience planning, coordinating and implementing ecological field programs
- Experience managing budgets and invoicing clients, or identify these skills as career development priorities
- High-quality technical communication, writing and organization skills, including demonstrated experience preparing technical reports
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Enthusiasm for working in field and office settings
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Independent problem-solving abilities and internal initiative
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license

**Education and Experience**
- A bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in biology, wildlife management and/or any other related environmental field is required as a minimum
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience as an ecologist or biologist in Ontario
