ABOUT THE ROLE
As Communications Coordinator Intern, you will be responsible for assisting in different areas to support the Communications and Marketing team, such as merchandise, social media, working with the SOCAN magazine CMS to upload content etc. With hands on experience, you will learn about SOCAN and the important role music rights organizations play in the music industry ecosystem. You will gain knowledge in music copyright, music publishing, music rights advocacy, how songwriters and screen composers get paid royalties, how SOCAN collects and distributes royalties to the songwriters, composers and music publishers they serve. You will learn communications best practices and have the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to the SOCAN brand and voice both internally and externally. You will put into practice all your communications skills as you work on a small fast-paced bilingual team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will help ideate merchandise and promotional items. Getting quotes, coordinating design and keeping inventory of current items.
- Assist in the sharing of news, announcements, and other communications for the benefit of employees on our Intranet.
- Social media monitoring and posting in support of our social media team as needed.
- Liaise with contract writers to gather and/or license photos, and from time-to-time conduct background research for stories.
- Participate in editorial meetings to gain an understanding of how we develop and prioritize content.
- Video post-production - understand the importance of providing accessible content, and manage the process of adding subtitles, uploading and posting of video content under guidance of the video editor.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program focused on communications, or relevant coursework in marketing, public relations, journalism, media or social media writing.
- Understanding and passion for social media platforms and digital content, and how they can be leveraged for marketing and communication purposes.
- Ability to produce clear, compelling, and grammatically correct content for various mediums.
