Qualitative Research Coordinator, Psychiatry

**Description**

This position will be based out of the Mathison Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre but involves working closely with government and non-profit agencies across the province. The Qualitative Research Coordinator will generally work during normal business hours but will occasionally need to work evenings or weekends. This position allows some flexibility to work from home, but travel to study sites across the province will be required at different phases of the study.

The Research Coordinator will report to the Senior Scientist.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Community engagement including
- Conducting co-design workshops
- Facilitating focus groups, conducting qualitative interviews of youth and stakeholders
- Research team support including
- Conducting literature reviews and summarizing findings
- Analyzing study data
- Reporting results to stakeholders in written and oral formats journals
- Generation of Research proposals and Conjoint Ethics Board submissions that advance joint reconstruction research
- Obtaining informed consent, recruiting patients, and ensuring appropriate and timely follow-up for research studies
- Confidential research data management
- Assist with manuscript preparation for publication
- Provide clients with information and advice about programs/services
- Coordinate and schedule research visits according to study procedures
- Abstract data from existing databases
- Collaborate with the study investigators to perform and complete relevant parts of the study, such as obtaining signatures, discussing questions that come up, reviewing abnormal results of tests, etc.
- Perform physician delegated functions, such as interviewing and educating patients, completing questionnaires, performing simple physical exam tasks such as measuring weight, height and blood pressure, etc.
- Develop informed consent forms, source documents worksheets and case report forms
- Contribute to protocol development by bringing forth feasible ideas for patient recruitment, study design and methodology and patient retention in studies
- Prepare and submit study documents to the ethic boards
- Maintain research study binders with regulatory documents and patient data
- Keep electronic records of all study material including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, modifications, etc.
- Educate patients and their families on research procedures
- Collect and maintain data logs
- Perform data entry for studies and update databases

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Master's degree in social science, or related discipline (Bachelor's degree with sufficient experience will be considered)
- At least 3 years of experience conducting research in social, behavioural or clinical fields
- Well versed in qualitative methodology
- Experience in journey mapping
- Experience with digital story telling and photovoice
- Experience with research involving human participants
- Experience working with youth and families
- Experience conducting literature reviews
- Thorough understanding of mental health and interventions to support mental health
- Understanding of ethical guidelines in human research
- Friendly and approachable personality that can rapidly build rapport with stakeholders
- Collaborative approach and team-oriented mindset
- Exceptional attention-to-detail, especially when working with research data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Skill with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Intellectual curiosity and desire to accept new challenges and learn new skills
- Skill with software for data collection and analysis is an asset (e.g. NVivo, SPSS, REDCap, Qualtrics)
- Ability to travel to multiple sites around the province of Alberta to meet with partners and collect research data
- A valid Class 5 Driver's license with proven good driving record (abstract required) and ability to use own personal vehicle for travel is required
- Knowledge translation and exchange experience
