Markham, Canada Steel Fire Equipment Ltd Full time

**ABOUT US**:
You have never heard of us, but our products are everywhere. You just need to look up. Once you know what to look for, you will see our round, white or silver life-protecting heat detectors on the ceilings in schools, hotels, office towers, condominiums, warehouses parking garages, to name a few. Our innovative little company has been manufacturing in Canada for over 60 years. We hold the original patent for mechanical heat detection and the founder was a founding member of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association with the first meeting held at FDD’s original office on Willowdale Ave.

Our customers are global fire alarm manufacturers like Honeywell, Mircom, Siemens and Simplex as well as service companies that install and service fire alarm systems.

We are a small company of 7 with operations in Markham, Ontario. FDD is now owned by the Steel Group with operations in Mississauga Ontario and Burnaby BC. Like FDD, the Steel Group have been leaders in fire protection for over 60 years. Our culture reflects our family business heritage.
- Family is important. We respect and are flexible to the needs of our staff, many of whom have been with us for over 20 years.
- We view our customers and vendors as partners with many relationships going back over 20 years.
- We are personal with our customers. When you call you get a person and not a machine. Hopefully you will find that this job posting shows some personality too.
- We play the long game where decisions are made to maximize the customer experience and not the individual transaction.

**OUR CORE VALUES**:

- Deliver WOW through customer service
- Challenge the Status Quo
- Be Curious and pursue learning and growth
- Show your Personality, Be Personal (Personal-ity)
- Do more with Less

**JOB OVERVIEW**

You are the key on-site contact for the Supply Chain Manager who you report directly to.

If you like to be busy, and wear many hats, this is a role for you to consider. Your hats here are the big three, Customer Service, Operations and Supply Chain. Your time split between these activities is roughly 40/40/20%.

This is a tricky job to hire for let alone come up with a job title. We are looking for someone who has spent their career on the operations side in light manufacturing and who can also deliver WOW customer service. There is also a bit of office manager in this role too.

You will cross-trained to do every job as this a “hands on” job. At FDD you will become a jack of all trades, AND master of ALL. You are expected to gain a deep understanding of the production line and manufacturing processes, as well as familiarity with machinery and equipment used.

To meet our customer demand, you will be on the floor, taking the initiative to perform tasks to remove production bottlenecks or cover a position while someone is away. You also have the critical responsibility for the 100% quality and performance of our products. Throughout the day, you will perform and document spot quality checks and procedures at different stations of production. Problems are immediately reported to the Supply Chain Manager, and you work together to decide the next steps.

Supply chain activities include receiving, pick, pack and shipping of customer orders, scheduling vendor transfers, inventory and cycle counting. As you become familiar with the production process you will be trained to schedule weekly production and priorities.

Given the nature of work, this role requires you to be very comfortable using a business system, specifically order entry, shipping, production posting and inventory modules.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Customer Service
- Enter orders, quotes
- Follow-up with customer on order status, estimated ship dates
- Provide or coordinate product information and technical support

2. Operations
- Cross trained to perform all tasks and fill in when staff are away or add capacity to a process to remove a bottleneck.
- Pick and pack customer orders, process the order through our business system (Modular) and generate a carrier label
- Track productivity and First Time Quality (FTQ%) in excel
- Maintain Quality standards of finished product by spot checking and documenting quality at different stages of manufacturing
- Maintain a safe and clean workplace
- Track and submit payroll records to head office (Weekly hours, vacation requests, sick days etc)

3. Supply Chain
- Receive incoming product by confirming products match our PO (product, quality, quantity) and post the receipt into Modular.
- Post work order production of finished product into Modular so that inventory records are timely and accurate.
- Schedule freight vendor pick-ups and drop-offs to vendors.
- Review stock levels through visual checks of inventory level and office supplies.
- Schedule production to ensure processes are efficient, costs are minimized, and customer demand is met effectively.
- Perform weekly cycle counting and Year-end physical inventory.
