About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Supervisor to join our team for a 15-month Contract. This role is responsible for overseeing the corporate accounting function, including general ledger, treasury, financial reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

The successful candidate will ensure timely completion of month-end tasks, review and approve journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and address discrepancies to guarantee accurate investigation and resolution.

This position requires strong leadership skills, with experience in supervising teams and ensuring adherence to Public Sector Accounting Standards and MIS guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervise the preparation of annual and semi-annual reports in compliance with the Broader Public Sector Act
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of remittances and tax-related issues (e.g., HST)
  • Oversee accounts payable activities, including accounting, recording, and payment processes
  • Review weekly payment runs and vendor reconciliations, addressing discrepancies promptly
  • Supervise daily operations of the accounts receivable function, monitoring controls for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of revenue recognition and cash safeguarding
  • Monitor monthly accounts payable/receivable KPIs, identify areas for improvement, and provide necessary support and guidance to staff
  • Maintain a strong control environment, ensuring financial service functions align with best practices, Public Sector Accounting Standards, and legislative requirements
  • BUILD AND MAINTAIN STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH DEPARTMENTS, PROVIDING SUPPORT WHILE ENSURING ADHERENCE TO INTERNAL POLICIES AND COMPLIANCE WITH FINANCIAL CONTROLS

About You

  • A Professional Accounting Designation (Chartered Professional Accountant preferred) and an undergraduate degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related discipline are required
  • At least five years' experience in financial accounting, preferably in a public sector setting, with previous experience as a team lead or supervisor being an asset
  • Knowledge of operations, funding formulas, and reporting requirements is essential
  • Excellent communication skills (written, presentation, oral) and active listening skills are required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to determine solutions are necessary

Earnings Information

The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, you may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
