Emotional Behaviour Specialist

Thrive Charter School is a kindergarten through grade 6 school located at 10735 McQueen Road opening in September 2023. The school is currently under renovation. Thrive School is creating something special; a no fees to parents, K-6 Public Charter School. A place where our students’ brilliant futures come into clear focus, and anything is possible.

Position Description

1.0 FTE Emotional Behaviour Specialist (EBS)

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies or related area, in addition to three years of directly related experience.
- Knowledge in the areas of Science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Therapeutic Play, Attachment, data collection methods, and various psychological diagnoses and their impact on an individual's development is an asset
- Knowledge of various community agencies and early childhood and adolescent development, requirements of students with diverse needs, current parenting practices individual and family therapy, group dynamics, different theories and methods of communication
- Knowledge of emotional/behavioural disorders, developmental delays, suicide prevention/intervention, adolescent relationships, inclusive education, family violence, poverty, addictions, bereavement and cultural diversity
- Knowledge of the challenges confronting immigrant families including settlement and school integration issues
- Advanced problem-solving and needs assessment skills
- Ability to manage crisis situations efficiently and effectively
- Ability to establish rapport and develop positive working relationships between stakeholders
- Ability and willingness to share strategies with other Thrive team members to ensure success for all
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide-range of clients
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to anticipate issues and concerns and facilitate proactive responses

**Responsibilities**:
Under the guidance of the Principal, the teachers in the classrooms where you are assigned, and in compliance with the Thrive Elementary School approved charter:

- Determine the level of service required in each case
- Teach students, teachers, educational assistants how to appropriately implement self-regulation strategies, etc
- Establish action plans and implement goals with students to address identified areas using Individualized Program Plans and Personalized Opportunity Plans
- Monitor and document impact of supports
- Liaise between Thrive staff and families to facilitate increased positive contact, communication and understanding of individual student’s needs and circumstances
- Participate as a member of educational support teams to assist students and their families in academic, behavioral, social and emotional growth
