Organizational Status
The research collaboration will take place with Zoom meetings as the position is fully remote (home), with the possibility of in-person meetings on campus if necessary (Forest Sciences Centre).
Work Performed
Research-Cluster Facilitation
Project Coordination and Scheduling
- Assist in the planning of project timelines, coordinate milestones, deadlines and collaborative activities in alignment with the Principal Investigator’s goals.
- Facilitate research meetings by drafting agendas and prioritizing key objectives and initiatives
Team and Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead the engagement of the research team and Kwiakah Nation, fostering connections across departments, institutions and communities to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration
- Draft project updates, communicating key insights, progress, and upcoming activities developed by project contributors
- Respond to inquiries from project participants and stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely responses
- Identify and address project gaps shortcomings, and provide recommendations to inform decision making and support project outcomes.
Research Documentation Oversight and Data Stewardship
- Manage all project-related documents, including contracts, invoices, reports, meeting notes, and research files, ensuring secure storage, accessibility, and transparency to support the collaborative goals of this Kwiakah-led, interdisciplinary initiative.
- Compose reports and technical summaries that support decision-making and align with project goals.
- Collaborate with research teams to ensure reports are accurate, relevant, and meet larger community expectations
Grant Writing and Budget Coordination
- Develop and manage research project budgets, prepare financial forecasts for personnel, materials, and operational costs, while ensuring alignment with funding requirements and institutional policies.
- Serve as a liaison between researchers, funders, and administrative teams throughout the grant lifecycle
- Perform additional tasks as required by the position

- As time permits, advancing research on social equity and hybrid economic models that incorporate Indigenous values
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The nature of the work demands planning the sequence of duties, the work methods to be employed, and the actions to be taken with extensive cultural sensitivity and respect. The incumbent requires independent judgment, tact, discretion, and initiative, based upon a thorough knowledge of procedures, guidelines, and regulations. Errant decisions or communications could have a serious impact on operations and the reputation of the department and University.
Supervision Received
The individual reports directly to Dr. Suzanne Simard and will be co-supervised by Steph Troughton and Jean Roach.
Supervision Given
None. The Research Project Coordinator will be expected to onboard new team members, ensuring they have access to all necessary information and resources to support their integration and success.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
