The UBC School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) is a partnership between the Faculties of Medicine and Applied Science, acting as a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in biomedical engineering, creating new knowledge, new academic and training programs, and fostering translation and innovation. Its vision is to transform health care outcomes through unconstrained exploration of the best possible integrative solutions across engineering, medicine, and biology.
Job Summary
We seek two people with a good understanding of the landscape of clinical research, and the administration that overlays it, as well as experience working with commercial partners in clinical trials. The successful applicants will work in a team environment where interpersonal respect, and being supportive and accountable are core collective values, as we work and learn together. The jobs will entail administrative tasks undertaken to support research efforts, primarily funding and ethics, and the openly collaborative nature of the group will welcome input into any aspect of MIIPs lab operations.
Organizational Status
These positions report to Dr Dave Liu as head of the MIIPs lab. A cultural feature of the MIIPs lab is our operation through a relatively flat/non-hierarchical structure where we are collectively accountable to, and supported by the entire group.
Work Performed
Preparation, composition, editing and proofing of contracts for research projects with commercial partners. Liaising directly with commercial partners during the drafting process for these contracts.
Contribution in meetings to define strategy, goals, methodologies, and scope of research projects.
Input into strategy for recruiting study participants, and contributing content for inclusion in surveys for clinical trials.

These positions will work with Dr Dave Liu setting goals and determining direction, and with general coordination of the MIIPs lab manager. In general though, supervision will be mutual with the team of peers who work together on lab funding and administration tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the UBC and/or VCHRI research administration ecosystems would be valuable, as would more extensive experience with larger research contracts or grant funding schemes.
Experience in laborious bureaucracies will have utility also.
