**About Us**:
The Department of Facilities Development and Engineering (FDE) assumes the key accountabilities in planning, development and construction of all buildings, infrastructure and sites.

**Responsibilities**:
The WES Operations Specialist (Building Automation) is the primary operator for the Western Environmental System (WES) and leads the operation of the campus computerized control system. The WES Operations Specialist (Building Automation) is responsible for overseeing the control strategies which determine when and/or how the building environmental systems are to operate, which directly affects the indoor environment for the entire University community. WES is a computerized control system used for monitoring and optimising the energy consumption of building heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems on campus. The Specialist is responsible for the operation of the Central Control Room which involves the operation and monitoring of more than 10,000 building environmental systems with tens of thousands of connected points, more than 500 of which are critically alarmed 24/7.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- 2 year Mechanical or Electrical Technology/Technician diploma or Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology/Technician diploma
- Certified Engineering Technologist designation is preferred

**Experience**:

- 2 years programming and working with HVAC electronic controls
- 2 years’ operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting HVAC electronic controls in an industrial, institutional, or commercial setting
- 1 year experience providing HVAC support preferably in a large, multi-site organization

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Demonstrated excellent knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems functions and principles as well as Building and Process Control
- Proven advanced knowledge of digital electronics including knowledge of industrial instrumentation, micro-computer interface techniques and computer network communication technology
- Strong understanding of the interactions between mechanical systems including, but not limited to, HVAC, steam, water, plumbing, etc.
- Delta Controls (e.g. Orca View, Illustrator, EnteliWEB, EnteliVIZ, OrcaWEB) experience preferred
- Skilled in programming (PLC/HMI/SCADA/DDC), commissioning, and graphic design
- Knowledge of communication protocols specifically: BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP, MSTP
- Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy and assimilate new information quickly
- Judgement, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Proven creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners and external agencies
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
