**Associate Vice-President, Financial Services**:

Full-Time Appointment

Laurentian University is located within the territory of the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850, and recognizes its placement on the traditional lands of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, as well as its proximity to Wahnapitae First Nation. The University, with 575 faculty and staff, is one of the largest employers in Sudbury. Laurentian, its employees and students contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy each year. The University’s annual budget exceeds $150 million, which supports the learning and research activities of over 9,000 students.

For over 60 years, Laurentian has provided high-quality, postsecondary education to students in Northern Ontario, with a focus on online learning. The bilingual and tricultural mandate of Laurentian is unique in Ontario, and provides access to and its impact on outcomes in the region is vital and crucial. Laurentian’s importance to Northern Ontario and to thousands of students who otherwise would have difficulty accessing post-secondary education. It is one of the biggest contributors to the local economy and is widely considered the University of the North-east region.

Laurentian has developed an international reputation for research excellence and is one of the Province’s leading research universities on sectors relevant to the economy in the North, such as:
) mining, minerals exploration, and environmental stewardship,

) northern, rural and occupational health,

) Indigenous and ally-led research, and

) interdisciplinarity.

Laurentian offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate-level, and doctorate degrees. Laurentian is the largest bilingual provider of distance education in Canada. The university programs specialize in many fields, including arts, social sciences, technology, natural sciences, engineering, mining, geophysics, health, business management, finance, and forensics.

The university is a member of **L'Association des universités de la francophonie canadienne**, a network of academic institutions of the Canadian Francophonie.

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, the Associate Vice President (AVP) Financial Services provides leadership and oversight in all aspects of financial services including amongst others: planning and budgeting, accounting, reporting, treasury functions, procurement, and risk management. The AVP Financial Services ensures that these functions/services are performed in a manner that protects the University’s reputation, safeguards its financial assets, and maintains its financial viability.

The AVP Financial Services is responsible for maintaining an effective system of financial controls over the activities of the University though the use of appropriate systems, processes, and policies. In carrying out these responsibilities the AVP works closely with senior leaders and maintains collaborative relationships to effect change and to meet current and future needs related to services provided by the Financial Services Group. The AVP provides advice on the University’s financial risks and mitigation to the senior management Team and the Board of Governors.
