Established in 1858, the Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student government in Canada. Through representing student’s interests, offering an array of student programs, providing advocacy, and operating a range of student run services, the AMS fulfills its mission, “to serve and represent the diverse student populations at Queen’s University”. The AMS is a non-profit corporation with an annual budget of $12.5 million and a dynamic learning environment for hundreds of paid and volunteer student positions annually each year.

**Overview of Position**:
The Marketing Officer works closely with and takes direction from the President. They are primarily responsible for supporting and mentoring the student held position of Marketing Director, who reports to the President, and a resource to other marketing roles throughout the organization. This position will bring their experience with marketing strategies, organization, and tools, to support student leaders in the execution of their marketing roles.

The Marketing Officer focuses more on ‘mentoring and teaching’ and not being the ‘hands on marketing’ resource. They will genuinely enjoy the opportunity to work with post-secondary students. This role will also work to develop company policies, procedures, and ethical standards and ensure they are communicated, understood, and being adhered to.

The Marketing Officer must possess a relevant post-secondary degree, minimum five years of experience in marketing, and minimum two years of experience in a management role.

**Responsibilities**
- Support the Marketing Director in the preparation of the departmental goal plan which will serve as the framework for the annual budget prepared in collaboration with the accounting department, internal customers and approved by the President.
- Act as a resource to other student marketing roles which report through to senior student leadership in our Services (i.e. Common Ground Coffeehouse, Tricolour Outlet, etc.), Government Advocacy Commissions, and Offices (i.e. Human Resources). This would include being available for a 1:1 meeting with managers seeking more support in their portfolios to help develop their skills set. Create opportunities for leadership and development whenever possible
- More active idea generation and support with strategy in the development of large-scale organization wide marketing projects and campaigns, working alongside student leaders responsible for the programming and execution.
- Responsible for vendor relationships and supporting companywide marketing resources in the use of primary marketing tools and programs such as; AMS Websites, Social Media accounts
- Participate in Marketing Caucus, chaired by the Marketing Director, where marketing personnel within the organization meet to create strong relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration to drive student engagement, increase communication, share best practices, and access available resources.
- Be informed on issues that impact students of Queen’s University and post-secondary education to understand the environment in which the organization works and be aware of the interests and concerns of students and stakeholder groups.
- Responsible to develop procedures and management tools to assist the Marketing Department in their coordination, prioritization, and execution of deadlines in the provision of marketing support to the organization.
- Responsible to support the development of and ensure understanding and compliance within the organization for marketing related company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Ensure that brand initiatives and use of trademarks are consistent with company policies and are promoted and communicated for consistency year over year.
- Assist the Marketing Director with the monitoring of actual results against the approved budget in the organization accounting system (Business Central) each month; tracking performance.
- Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings.

**Required Qualifications**
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience within a marketing role
- Minimum of 2 year of experience supervising, evaluating and coaching others
- Demonstratable experience providing support and mentoring to others
- Have working knowledge of the use of trademarks.
- Experience with the design and implementation of successful product-branding strategies
- Current exposure and understanding of marketing trends, strategies, and tools; especially with social media
- Building strong relationships with internal and external parties to create new partnerships and foster future business opportunities
- Knowledge of major social media platforms with an emphasis on paid marketing campaign placement.
