The Communications Specialist will support the UHKF fundraising initiatives through creation of compelling, persuasive, well-structured grant/proposal narratives using effective storytelling and superior prose, while effectively tying the organization’s interests to fund priorities.

**PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES**:

- Planning, scheduling and conducting interviews to capture content for the purpose of story-telling, reporting or other activities.
- Creating and/or editing content in a range of forms, including: integrated marketing campaigns, web and multimedia scripts, advertising and direct mail campaigns, articles, annual reports, newsletters in paper and electronic formats, speeches, and/or other communications products;
- Conducts primary and secondary research for content development and transcribe any interviews that take place;
- Prioritize projects as needed, maintain high copywriting and creative standards, and meet deadlines;
- Collaborate flexibly with teams and revise articles and writing style according to editor feedback;
- Draft or edit briefing notes, power points, reports or other documents; and
- Edit and review content with meticulous attention to grammar, punctuation, style, tone, and consistency of reports and other written materials.
- Media Relations including acting as a liaison, pitching, writing/editing press releases and media advisories, or other communications.
- Video/photography duties upon request.
- Adobe design work

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- University Degree or diploma in Copy-writing, Journalism, Creative Writing, Professional Writing, or English preferred. Consideration will also be given to those with equivalent combinations of experience and College level education. An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of writing experience and at least 1 year writing for non-profit or healthcare related organizations
- Experience working in a fundraising environment preferred
- Extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector preferred
- Technical writing experience will be considered an asset.
- Agency or B2B writing experience will be considered an asset.
- Adobe Creative Suite and videography/photography experience.
- Exceptional written and oral communications skills, including the ability to write, evaluate, and edit the content, structure, and format of a range of written material.
- Proven ability to seamlessly adapt writing style to different audiences.
- Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and manage deadlines accordingly.
- Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others.
- Flexibility to work outside normal office hours
- Satisfactory criminal background with vulnerable sector search
- Proof of immunization and other health screening requirements

**Salary**: $63,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
