**Summary**

Reporting to the Director of Legal Talent, the Manager of Legal Talent is responsible for managing the associate and student programs in the Calgary and Yellowknife offices of Lawson Lundell. They will work as an operational and strategic partner to the Director of Legal Talent in all matters related to our students and associates, including our Vancouver and Kelowna programs.

**Responsibilities**

General responsibilities include assisting with recruiting and hiring, training and managing, performance management and the professional development of students and associates in the Calgary and Yellowknife offices of Lawson Lundell.

**Recruiting and Hiring**
- Assist with lateral associate recruitment including the following:

- Coordinating lateral recruitment strategy, including alternative sources to external hiring (e.g. digital media and recruiting agencies).
- Responding to all external inquiries regarding associate recruitment.
- Coordinating the lateral associate interview process.
- Assist with regional student recruitment including the following:

- Liaising with Law Schools nationally regarding recruitment, sponsorship, events and awards.
- Maintaining strong relationships with law school career resource offices and other law firm recruiting professionals.
- Organizing all aspects of special student events held at the office.
- Arranging for orientation week sponsorships, law school social functions, and law school outreach to ensure Lawson is attracting the best students.
- Assisting with all aspects of on-campus interviews and in-firm interviews.
- Completing NALP forms, law school surveys, and any other statistical information required.
- Oversee Law Society membership process for students and associates.

**Training and Managing**
- Plan and coordinate Lawson's comprehensive student and new associate orientation training program.
- Collaborate with the Research & Opinions group to coordinate summer research work assignments.
- Organize and plan in-firm Grant of License and Call Ceremony celebrations.
- Participate in Recruitment Committee, Student Committee and Professional Development Committee meetings.
- Coordinate with Marketing to ensure accuracy of student and associate information on website and other social media platforms.
- Work with the Director of Legal Talent to manage Lawson's mentoring program for students and associates.
- Plan and coordinates social programming and team building events for students and associates.

**Performance Management**
- Assist with administering the review process for summer and articled students.
- Make recommendations regarding student hire back into associate roles.

**Professional Development**
- Coordinate and implement professional development programming for students and associates.

**Qualifications and Skills**
- Post-secondary education in Law.
- Former practicing legal professional.
- Leadership experience.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of recruitment in both Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
- Highly organized with the ability to keep on top of multiple deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including comfort with public speaking.
- The ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Initiative and strong work ethic.
- Discretion in handling highly confidential and sensitive information.

This is a full time position. Generally, the hours will be Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; due to the nature of the role, some flexibility will be required. Occasional travel to the Vancouver office is also required. This is a 15 month contract for parental leave coverage.
