Position Overview:The Legal Services Unit (LSU), part of Pembina's External Affairs Division, is seeking a Manager, Associate General Counsel due to internal advancements. The successful candidate will lead a segment of the LSU team, which collectively offers a range of legal services, including commercial, corporate, regulatory, litigation, and securities support across the organization.
The Manager, Associate General Counsel will be responsible for overseeing the legal services provided to various departments, including Human Resources, Supply Chain, Land, Environment & Regulatory, Community and Indigenous Affairs, Government Relations, Communications, and Enterprise Risk, in addition to guiding litigation matters. This role requires serving as a trusted advisor and resource for the Vice President, General Counsel, and Pembina's Executive team.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver timely and strategic leadership and counsel on all relevant matters, emphasizing permitting, compliance, emergency response, and complex litigation issues;
- Oversee Pembina's whistleblower program and related investigations;
- Drive initiatives for knowledge management and legal process enhancement while supporting corporate productivity efforts;
- Effectively lead both internal and external legal professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to managers and supervisors;
- Mentor and manage performance, facilitating career development for team members;
- Conduct onboarding, education, and training for direct reports, including setting and tracking goals;
- Address inquiries and issues promptly and professionally;
- Establish and maintain strong, positive working relationships across all organizational levels;
- Research and identify technical solutions that align with business needs;
- Support Pembina's safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and adhere to the "Life Saving Rules";
- Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal practice experience, holding a Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree, and a membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta;
- Extensive experience in AER, CER, and/or FERC regulatory and litigation management;
- Proven experience in leading whistleblower programs and investigations;
- Familiarity with privacy law requirements;
- Preferred candidates will have experience leading an in-house legal team;
- Ability to comprehend and deliver on business objectives and priorities;
- Skill in communicating legal advice clearly, concisely, and practically;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities;
- A collaborative team player with sound judgment;
- A self-motivated individual capable of managing multiple tasks;
- High level of professionalism and integrity;
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills;
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and presentation capabilities;
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks, including a Criminal Record Check.
