If so, the Safe & Healthy Communities section of the Social Development Branch of Community Services is looking to hire you

The Safe and Healthy Communities Section works together with key community partners to address complex social issues impacting Edmontonians, with particular attention to people and groups that have been marginalized or have additional barriers to participation. Team members work collaboratively with a range of community and government partners to address issues and advance policy and systems change.

As a Social Planner within this Section, you will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of activities and initiatives guiding the development of frameworks and action plans related to community and safety wellbeing, with a specific focus on violence reduction and crime prevention in Edmonton. You will ensure the City is aware of trends and best practices, in partnership with multiple key stakeholders to drive positive change. Your knowledge, expertise, and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders will ensure your success in this role.

Within this role you will:

- Provide leadership on achieving outcomes and supporting deliverables of City-wide projects specific to the development of data driven responses and action plans that foster community safety, wellness, and crime prevention
- Provide oversight and project management to initiatives and collaborative reports in response to Council motions
- Lead, monitor and evaluate the development of associated performance measurements, targets, and tools
- Establish and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with internal partners, other orders of government, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and other community stakeholders
- Utilize community development approaches when conducting research and as a significant part of strategic planning
- Work as part of a team of social planners maintaining and overseeing related initiatives and portfolios across the Section
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for stakeholders, summarizing the progress and results of initiatives
- Design and implement effective public engagement processes which provide opportunities for stakeholders to contribute to the identification of gaps, issues, and policy direction
- Demonstrate knowledge and use of a variety of techniques and tools as a means of project management, communication and engagement

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a Master's degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Planning/Policy Studies, Sociology, Human Ecology, Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum 3 years professional social planning experience, research/analysis, and strategy/policy development in the areas of community and social issues. Experience in a large/similar organization or public sector is an asset
- Professional social planning experience must include 3 years demonstrated proficiency in project management strategies, processes and systems
- Minimum 3 years experience developing collaborative partnerships/relationships, large public and/or stakeholder consultations, and public engagement processes and events

**OR**
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Planning/Policy Studies, Sociology, Human Ecology, Social Work, Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum 5 years professional social planning experience, research/analysis, and strategy/policy development in the areas of community and social issues. Experience in a large/similar organization or public sector is an asset
- Professional social planning experience must include 5 years demonstrated proficiency in project management strategies, processes and systems
- Minimum 5 years experience developing collaborative partnerships/relationships, large public and/or stakeholder consultations, and public engagement processes and events

**Additional Requirements**:

- Excellent leadership skills in the areas of project management, negotiation, planning, and delivery processes
- Exceptional proficiency in research and analysis of community and social issues along with strategy and/or policy development in the areas of community development and social planning
- Demonstrated proficiency in facilitating and leading community development activities and developing collaborative partnerships and relationships
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate evidence-informed decision-making
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical and contractual communication, report writing, and presentations to corporate, and community stakeholders; including preparation and presentation of comprehensive projects, public engagement, and communications plans
