The Safe and Healthy Communities Section works collaboratively with key community partners to address complex social issues impacting Edmontonians. The Section includes 4 teams: the Community Safety Team, the Community Wellness Team, the Community Social Work team, and the Family Violence Prevention Team. Together, these teams work with individuals, groups and organizations to make sure that people have access to the resources they need to stay healthy and safe, and to fully participate and be included in their community and the city. The Section pays particular attention to people and groups that have been marginalized or have additional barriers to participation. Team members work collaboratively with a range of community and government partners to address issues and to advance policy and systems change.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

- Use a project management framework to provide oversight and steward initiatives to ensure internal and external partners are engaged, roles are clear, and work is completed on time, within scope, and meets corporate and community needs
- Monitor and identify issues that may impact the Section and provide leadership, research, analysis and recommendations on a wide variety of issues
- Develop, analyze and prepare reports/briefing notes/memos for City Council, Committees and Corporate Leadership Team
- Assist the Director and Section Leadership team with planning and development of policies that influence the operational areas
- Facilitate and support the Section through strategic planning processes, ensuring alignment with branch, department and corporate plans and strategies
- Partner with branch and section stakeholders to ensure coordination and integration of activities
- Facilitate requests from other sections and the public for information and problem-solving
- Make recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Section operations
- Engage and support staff in developing work plans to enhance communication, solve complex problems creatively, promote Section integration, and support a successful and high-performing team.

**Qualifications**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related discipline. A Master’s Degree is an asset
- A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of: strategic and operational business planning, working with corporate performance measurements and budgets; business case development
- Experience working within a public sector environment
- The ability to establish strong collaborative working relationships with various levels of the organization and operating areas is essential
- Experience in research, data analysis and evaluation including developmental, qualitative and quantitative methods
- Experience with and knowledge of project management and project management tools
- Understanding of and ability to work on a wide range of items in a fast paced, large volume, deadline driven environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to effectively communicate information to a variety of audiences
- Sound judgment and strategic thinking skills, and the ability to anticipate needs and develop creative solutions. A future focused and proactive approach is required. Strategic Foresight training is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
- Knowledge of current community resources, social issues, social programs and crime trends in Edmonton is an asset
- Understanding of Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+), social determinants of health, anti-racism, Indigenous equity, and trauma-informed practice is an asset
- Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
