Background

The Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) is a non-profit charitable organization working in Alberta since 1995 to strengthen community capacity and build healthier and stronger communities. The AHC's objective is to improve the lives of individuals and communities in which they live through provision of public education and other capacity building initiatives to enable them to enhance their own lives.

Job Summary

The Adult Literacy and Skills Development (ALSD) program offers community-based learning opportunities, including English, computer, legal literacy, health literacy, and more, to meet foundational learning needs of adult learners. We are seeking a highly responsible, organized, and dedicated full-time Program Assistant with outstanding administrative, marketing, research, writing, and organizational skills to support all the teaching and learning provided by the program. The major responsibilities include providing administrative support, reaching out to communities, assisting in designing marketing materials for social media, conducting research to develop the program, and helping to collect data for grant proposals and reports. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Program Assistant will assist with the daily operations and contribute to the promotion and development of the program for the future.

Responsibilities Include

· Assist the enrollment of adult learners in classes.

· Assist instructors in the facilitation of learning opportunities (classes and workshops).

· Help participants with their learning and create a welcoming environment for the classes.

· Provide support for professional development training for program staff, volunteers and instructors.

· Support the development of curriculum for various AHC learning opportunities (classes and workshops).

· Support the development of evaluation tools for the various AHC learning opportunities (classes and workshops), help the process of learners and instructors' evaluations.

· Collect and analyze data for funders' reports

· Facilitate scheduling of meetings with staff, partners, and clients, documentation of meeting minutes and other administrative duties.

· Prepare program promotion materials such as brochures, posters, and flyers and reach out to communities to promote AHC learning opportunities (classes and workshops).

· Facilitate communication among program staff, instructors, and volunteers, as well as communications with learners.

· Facilitate the operations of the program's digital management systems (CRM, LMS etc.).

· Assist in various fund/resource development tasks and reporting.

· Conduct outreach engagements to similar adult learning service provider organizations and assist in innovation to improve AHC's adult learning opportunities (classes and workshops).

· Facilitate program's celebration of learning events.

· Complete other tasks, as needed, to support program operations.

Qualifications:

This position is available through the Canada Summer Job Grant.

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom refugee protection has

been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the

employment, and

  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to

work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and

regulations

A university student or graduate of Adult Education, Continuing Education, Business Administration, or related area of study preferred. Experience in data entry, administrative work, marketing, and report writing is an asset.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Proactive, detail orientated and flexible with strong organizational skills

· Strong technology skills, software applications, including Microsoft Office and google suites.

· Strong knowledge and skills in instructional software, Learning Management System platforms, social media, wikis, blogs and web-based databases

· Ability to handle sensitive information with maturity and discretion

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple responsibilities

· Work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced work environment with time-sensitive goals

· Hardworking, coachable, and a fast learner

Working Conditions

· In-person

· Work evenings or weekends required
