The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 continues its tradition of welcoming newcomers to Canada.

The Welcome Home to Canada (WHTC) program is a six month employability program for new immigrants to Canada. If you are an unemployed or underemployed immigrant and facing barriers to meaningful employment this program may be an option for you.

**About the program**

The program offers you:

- A six month work term at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21
- Mentorship and one-on-one supervision
- English language training through the Communications in the Workplace course offered in partnership with Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia ISANS
- Job search, resume and cover letter writing, and interview preparation training
- Professional development and network-building opportunities
- Possibility of a two week work placement opportunity with a second employer
- Opportunities to participate in a Job Fair or a networking event

**Job Title**:Exhibitions Assistant

**Duration**: 6 months from May to October 2023

**Wages**: $16.65 per hour

**Reports to**: Curator

**Hours**: 37.5 hours a week with two (2) paid rest periods of 15 minutes and one 30 minute unpaid lunch break each day. As the Museum operates 7 days a week, the workweek includes Saturdays and/or Sundays and irregular hours (evenings, weekends)

**_Program eligibility_**
- You must be either a permanent resident of Canada, Canadian citizen born outside of Canada (this means you have immigrated to Canada and have become a Canadian citizen) or a protected person as defined in Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act who is legally entitled to work in Canada and Nova Scotia

AND
- You are unemployed or underemployed and facing barriers to employment such as lack of previous Canadian work experience, foreign credentials, language barriers or lack of professional networks.

**_Position Summary_**

Reporting to the Curator with day to day supervision by the Assistant Curator, the Exhibitions Assistant is responsible for the coordination of booking, transport and installation of the Museum’s small travelling exhibits as well as assisting in the installation of other museum exhibitions.

**_Responsibilities_**
- Operations & Financial Management_
- Arranges loans of small travelling exhibits and acts as the Museum’s main liaison with hosts of small exhibits
- Books tour locations across Canada for the Museum’s small exhibits, including communicating host requirements, preparing and processing contracts and invoices as well as supporting hosts during the exhibit’s display
- Coordinates shipping arrangements for small travelling exhibitions
- Assists with updating exhibition information sheets
- Assists in conducting follow-up through host surveys/feedback program and maintains information tracking spreadsheets for small travelling exhibits
- Handles inquiries from prospective and confirmed hosts and oversees follow-up
- Administration duties for record keeping and bill paying of travelling exhibition expenses
- Renewing and tracking image licenses
- Maintain budget tracking document
- Assists with onsite exhibition installation and other exhibitions duties as required
- Reports risk issues to the Curator
- Other tasks as assigned by the Curator
- Collections_
- Organizes Museum collections data, donation information, metadata, and digital media
- Marketing, Communication and Development:_
- Seeks potential hosts and pitches exhibit opportunities to make bookings
- Shares promotional materials with prospective hosts and supports confirmed exhibit host’s promotion of the exhibit in accordance with the Museum’s promotional guidelines

**_Skills required_**
- Experience in administrative duties and/or project planning
- Proficiency with information tools, including Microsoft suite, Excel
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
- Resourcefulness and initiative
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- The ability to communicate effectively in English, oral and written
- Museum or gallery experience an asset
- French language skills an asset
