The Department of Health establishes the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction for health, including advising government on health policy, legislation and standards, and public health concerns; monitoring and reporting health system performance; setting policies and priorities for the electronic/digital health environment; and providing oversight and ensuring accountability across the health system.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Indigenous Health Division has two Director openings.

The Director of Indigenous Health Policy and Planning leads a unit dedicated to developing and supporting strategies, policies, and legislation that helps to improve the health status of Indigenous peoples and reduce the gap in health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Albertans.

The Director of Indigenous Partnerships and Collaboration leads a diverse team that coordinates the early and authentic engagement with Indigenous communities, Alberta Health Services, non-profit organizations, and other groups.

Director of Indigenous Health Policy and Planning

As the Director of Indigenous Health Policy and Planning you will be responsible for leading the policy and planning unit by providing strategic direction and perspectives that shape and inform the Ministry's approach in respect to Indigenous health. As the director you will play a key role in:

- Building relationships, partnerships, and fostering a culture of trust among Indigenous health partners to achieve mutual goals.
- Providing leadership and guidance to the unit to develop policy, strategies, and actions related to Indigenous health and support policy coordination and advice to Ministry program areas on Indigenous health.
- Ensuring activities align with Alberta Health's policies, strategic priorities, and broader Government of Alberta direction.
- Contributing advice and expertise on Indigenous health issues and lead Alberta Health's contributions to government's overall Indigenous policy and programming direction (i.e. UN Dec, TRC, Residential Schools and Sixties Scoop).
- Leading the development and implementation of various strategies to improve Indigenous Health outcomes (eg/ anti-racism initiatives, Jordan’s Principle and Modernization of Alberta’s Primary Healthcare System - Indigenous Stream).).
- Developing strategic relationships with system partners and stakeholders; including Alberta Health Services, federal and other provincial governments to support the development of policy advice, strategies, and research.
- Ensuring effective Unit operations, and contributing to the effective operation of the Branch and Department including; all aspects of Unit and Branch management, including recruitment, coaching, development, supervision and performance management.
- Supporting the Executive Director in leading Unit operations to achieve strategic, business, and operational goals.
