**Hours**:37.5 per week, Monday - Friday, weekends and evenings may be required.

**Reports To**: Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director

**Job Purpose**:

The Director of sîtôskam iyiniwatisiwin (supporting an Indigenous Way of Being) is responsible for organizational wide Cultural planning and program delivery, as well as the many relationships external to Boyle Street such as Nations, Elders and politicians. The Director will directly supervise the Manager of Cultural Supports IRS who has the responsibility of general management of the Indian Residential Schools Health Support Program.

**Key Areas of Responsibilities**:
**Operational Leadership**
- Active participation on the Director Team to provide an indigenous-based perspective on agency decision-making.
- Guide and oversee the direction of agency wide programming and service delivery. taking input and guidance from your team, Indigenous staff and others as appropriate.
- Build relationships with indigenous Nations, leaders and communities outside of Edmonton where our clients are from in order to better facilitate services and transitions for them;.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate program policies and procedures in consultation with team and key stakeholders.
- Debrief and follow-up critical incidents and/or crisis situations as requires to provide support, ensure protocols were followed and minimize future incidents.
- Ensure that all information regarding service delivery is developed, managed and reported in a timely manner.
- Attending and representing Boyle Street at all appropriate internal and external meetings;. Including politically driven meetings
- Briefing colleagues on internal and external emerging opportunities, issues, trends and learnings in your area of work.
- Briefing a broad Council of Elders who oversee Boyle Street’s cultural pathways.
- Overseeing training and professional developmental opportunities for the team.
- All other responsibilities as deemed reasonable and appropriate by the ED and Dep. ED

**Client Services (as needed depending on capacity of your IRS team)**
- To provide cultural support services, including to Former IRS Students and their immediate family member(s) and/or support person(s), paying particular attention to those individuals in crisis.
- Provide cultural support around a wide range of issues resulting from the legacy of the residential school system, including the intergenerational effects, in a manner that is sensitive to the unique needs of vulnerable populations.
- Provide support throughout the entire IRS process, preparing Former Students for proceedings, supporting during proceedings, and also supporting Former Students after proceedings.
- Work with the agency and its partners to provide other opportunities to Boyle Street Community Services’ clients and staff for cultural healing, including, but not limited to, sweats, feasts, healing circles and/or pipe ceremonies.
- To create educational opportunities for agency staff about cultural practices and traditions and the IRS legacy in order to more adequately respond to the unique needs of former IRS Students who are accessing their programs.
- Ensure that former IRS Students receive counselling support services by a) referring them to the appropriate Health Canada IRS RHSP Regional Coordinator for a determination of their eligibility for professional counselling services; and b) ensuring that respective counsellors are sensitive to the unique situation of houseless IRS Students.
- To be able to work from a cross-program case planning perspective.
- When possible, attend and provide cultural support to former IRS Students who request such support at IAP proceedings, IRS dispute resolution processes, IRS court hearings and Truth & Reconciliation Commission and/or Commemoration events.
- Build relationships with other Cultural Support Providers and RSHW’s nationally and regionally to develop a forum for discussion of best practices and sharing of approaches and experiences.
- Provide access to debriefing opportunities for Elder(s) to minimize the potential impacts of vicarious trauma associated with the provision of support to Former IRS Students and their immediate family member(s) and/or support person(s); and
- Evolve areas of practice and support to meet the changing needs of the community.

**Administration & Budget**
- Oversee and prepare required reports, this includes pulling information, writing and submission by expected deadlines.
- Signing off program expenses, keep expenses in alignment with funding agreements.
- Prepare and manage the program budget.
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding process for your programs as needed.
