Montréal, Canada Semilla Coffee Inc Full time

Semilla Coffee is a specialty coffee importer focused on supporting smallholders with limited or zero access to a specialty market and working with them as they navigate this transition.

We commit exclusively to small groups in the specific countries we work in - Rwanda, Colombia, Honduras, and Guatemala - and connect them with a network of specialty roasters in North America. Along the way, we seek to make decisions in consensus with the end goal of maximizing producer autonomy and agency.

As Relationship Manager, your day to day will be based around maintaining and establishing strong relationships with specialty coffee roasters throughout North America. In so doing, you will also be a representative of and advocate for the smallholder groups who make our work possible.

This position will be part-time on an initial six month basis to gauge fit and ability, with an assessment for fit at the completion of this term.

Compensation will be $25/hour for 25 hours per week. Start date will be August 1, 2023.

**Responsibilities**:
Build and maintain relationships: Establish and foster strong relationships with existing and new customers, understanding their needs and preferences.

Develop and execute a sales strategy: Identify potential customers, create sales plans, and set achievable targets to continue to build new relationships that allow us to integrate more smallholders into our sourcing aims.

Generate leads and build a customer base: Forge new relationships with roasters seeking to improve their connection to smallholders and develop long term buying models based on collaboration and consensus with the smallholders we represent.

Manage sample inventory, shipping, and follow up: Connect roasters with coffee samples, track the inventory of sample material on hand, and follow up to receive feedback on coffee samples. This will require a good comprehension of the projects and smallholders represented, as well as the varieties, processing, and roast approach.

Organize and conduct public and individual client cuppings: Showcase coffees and provide in depth information on the challenges and/or successes of each individual producer and group represented.

Provide exceptional customer service: Act as a reliable point of contact for our roaster partners, promptly addressing inquiries and resolving any issues.

Collaborate with internal teams: Coordinate closely with the logistics teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment and delivery.

Reporting and analysis: Track sales metrics, prepare regular reports, and analyze sales data to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:
3 - 5 years experience in the specialty coffee industry.

An academic background in history, geography, philosophy, sociology is an asset, as well as an understanding of how the complex dynamics of colonialism and global macroeconomics impact the smallholder coffee grower and the broader commodity supply system.

A passion for creating authentic and equitable relationships, and working towards a framework for a new coffee supply system that centers the most marginalized.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Mandatory proficiency in French and English, with Spanish proficiency a huge asset.

Self-motivated and target-driven, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Proficiency in using sales software, CRM systems, and other sales tools.

We look forward to hearing from you.
