Purpose of Role:
Senior intellectual property clerk working directly with internationally recognized partner and lawyer on a fast-paced large, direct, client practice with a focus on world-wide patent and trademark prosecution of IP portfolios. The role involves a direct relationship and communication with sophisticated clients, and being responsible for the coordination and management of the IP portfolios with the support of the broader national BLG Intellectual Property team.

Key Responsibilities and Skills:

- The key responsibilities of this role are:

- Monitor the matters including the due lists for all patent and trademark deadlines, communicate with clients, and coordinating a team of lawyers and agents internally and externally on those matters.
- Review, check, docket and report official correspondence from various Intellectual Property offices for both patent and trademark matters
- Attend to, review, and report various stages of Canadian and foreign patent and trademark prosecution
- When / if needed, assist with foreign renewal fees and deadlines
- Keep up-to-date on changes in patent and trademark law including internal procedural requirements with the support of the national BLG IP team

Key Competencies:

- What you will bring to this role:

- A minimum of 5 years of relevant patent and trademark experience with advanced knowledge in patent and trademark prosecution from a law firm and/or in-house experience
- Strong knowledge of USPTO, CIPO and WIPO online portals and processes
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and USPTO trademark and patent practice
- Strong organizational skills in planning and prioritizing work, multi-tasking and attention to details
- Ability to succeed in a multi-disciplinary team and to independently advance matters and client interests with mínimal supervision and with a collaborative and strategic mindset
- Adaptability to ever changing priorities and deadlines
- Paralegal, Law Clerk, or Legal Assistant Diploma an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A team player with a strong work ethic, a drive to provide the best service to our clients, and a desire for continuous improvement
