**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba is looking for a French Translator. This position entails fulfilling all translation requirement for project materials and archival records. The French Translator will also conduct terminology research and aid in enhancing the terminology glossary.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
- Undergraduate degree required.
- B.A., or post-graduate certificate or degree, in translation or translation studies from a recognized institution preferred
- Two years of translation experience required. (experience in revision is an asset).
- Experience in translating historical hand-written documents from French to English is required.
- Experience in translating website and other online content from English to French is required.
- Experience working within an archive or other cultural heritage institution is an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite is required, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Flexibility, autonomy, and the ability to respond effectively to urgent requests required.
- Good communication skills in French and English, and a capacity for teamwork required.
- Proficiency in current computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools required.
- Superior organizational skills required.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to make sound independent judgments, and take initiative required.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to co-ordinate workflow, prioritize work and handle multiple tasks at the same time required.
- Superior writing and editing skills required.
- Competencies with Indigenous cultural awareness, knowledge, and protocols required.
- Thorough knowledge of English and French composition and grammar with excellent proof-reading skills, attention to detail and ability to learn new concepts required.
- Ability to receive feedback, take and give direction and seek clarification as necessary is required.
- Excellent ability to anticipate and resolve problems required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment required.
- Aptitude for learning new software required.
- Perform all duties in a professional and diplomatic manner, and able to maintain confidentiality is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
