Position: Technical Translator (French) / Technical Writer

Overview:

This role is designed to merge translation responsibilities with technical writing tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

● Translate documentation from English into French.

● Comprehend and interpret mechanical information, with training provided if necessary.

● Review and edit existing documents to guarantee precision.

● Develop and uphold a glossary of technical terminology and standardized language.

● Proficiency in specialized CAT tools (such as Déjà Vu) and reference dictionaries (like Termium) for translating and proofreading French content is highly advantageous.

● Conduct research, plan, draft, and revise technical documents utilizing verified data from various sources.

● Types of technical content to be created or updated include: service bulletins, installation guides, and operations and maintenance manuals.

Qualifications:

● Post-secondary diploma in technical communication or equivalent experience.

● Strong planning, organizational, leadership, interpersonal, analytical, decision-making, and communication skills, both oral and written.

● Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse team.

● Collaborate with subject matter experts and publication staff regarding writing and illustration needs, production timelines, formatting standards, and delivery schedules.

● Familiarity with desktop translation and publishing software (Déjà Vu, InDesign, Frame Maker, Adobe Acrobat) and knowledge of Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator is beneficial.

● Excellent research, grammatical, and written communication abilities, along with strong organizational and analytical skills.

● Proficient computer skills and a willingness to learn new software relevant to this position.

● A background in mechanical knowledge or a demonstrated interest in the field is preferred.

● Experience in project management is considered an asset.
