Position Title: Technical Translator (French) / Technical Writer

Overview:

This role is designed to merge translation responsibilities with technical writing tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

● Translate documents from English into French.

● Comprehend and interpret mechanical information; training will be provided if necessary.

● Review and edit existing documents to guarantee precision.

● Develop and uphold a glossary of technical terminology and standardized grammar.

● Familiarity with specialized CAT tools (such as Déjà Vu) and technical dictionaries (like Termium) is highly advantageous for translating and proofreading French content.

● Conduct research, plan, create, and revise technical documents utilizing approved data from various sources.

● The technical materials being produced or updated include: service bulletins, installation guides, and operations and maintenance manuals.



Qualifications:

● A college diploma in technical communication or equivalent experience is required.

● Strong planning, organizational, leadership, interpersonal, analytical, decision-making, and communication skills (both oral and written).

● Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse team.

● Engage with subject matter experts and other publication personnel regarding writing and illustration needs, production timelines, formatting standards, and delivery schedules.

● Proficiency in desktop translation and publishing software (including Déjà Vu, InDesign, Frame Maker, Adobe Acrobat) and familiarity with Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

● Outstanding research, grammatical, and written communication abilities, alongside excellent organizational and analytical skills.

● Competent computer skills; willingness to learn new software pertinent to this position.

● Candidates should have some mechanical knowledge or a demonstrated interest in the field.

● Experience in project management is considered an asset.
