- Reporting to the Senior Manager, Staffing, Recruitment and Contract Services, the Employee _
- Relations Officer, Support Staff will provide professional advice and assistance with respect to _
- employee relations matters for support staff bargaining units. _
- The Employee Relations Officer, Support Staff will: _
- _Provide advice, guidance and counsel to Principals, Vice-Principals, Senior Staff, Managers on _
- the interpretation and implementation of support staff collective agreements including grievance _
- preparation and handling; _
- _Lead negotiations with designated support staff bargaining unit(s) on local/operational issues and _
- provide support to the central bargaining team; and _
- _Represent the Board at grievance and Labour/Management meetings; _

**Summary of Duties**:
Foster positive relations with stakeholders on employee relations matters;
Act as a resource and provide expert advice and counsel to stakeholders on progressive discipline,

collective agreement interpretation and/or implementation issues;
Provide input and/or collaborate on the development of various policies, procedures and protocols

on support staff collective agreement and employment related matters;
Consult with stakeholders in research of the facts regarding complaints and grievances;
Make decisions on settlement matters pertaining to grievances;
Coordinate and ensure proper implementation of settlements and resolutions of grievances;
Represent the Board at grievance and Labour/Management meetings;
Research and develop bargaining proposals and act as lead negotiator on local/operational

bargaining issues;
Identify, track and analyze employee relations trends using a variety of primary and secondary

research methods and tools to recommend actions as required;
Work closely and collaborate with other Employee Services team members on support staff

collective agreement and employment-related issues;
Provide functional guidance to the Employee Relations Assistant to ensure effective delivery of

quality customer service and support for the unit;
Provide in-service for staff as required;
Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of

programs and services; and
Other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
University degree in related field (e.g. Human Resources and Labour Relations) with four years

progressively responsible related labour relations experience in a large multi-site, multi-union
environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Successful labour relations experience including collective bargaining, grievance/arbitration
process, interpreting and administering collective agreement provisions, issue resolution and
mediation;
Demonstrated knowledge of various employment/labour legislation and dispute resolution
processes;
Proven ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with staff and internal/external
organizations in a clear, tactful, diplomatic and confidential manner;
Strong presentation and facilitation skills;
Strong leadership and team building skills;
Excellent research, analytical and problem solving skills;
Excellent project management skills and time management skills;
Proven ability to prepare accurate reports and summaries;
Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and

employee information systems;
**Special Requirements**:
Travel to TDSB sites to attend various meetings.
Access to a vehicle is required.
May be required to work evenings and weekends on urgent issues or during bargaining.
