**Working for the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS)**

The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) provides key support for graduate education and graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at the University of Alberta. With central responsibility and oversight for the administration of the U of A's graduate programs, the Faculty oversees student programs for over 8,600 graduate students and their records, sets minimum standards for all graduate programs, is entrusted with all aspects of quality assurance in graduate education on campus, administrates graduate scholarship funding to almost 4,000 graduate students annually, provides support and training to support graduate students in over 70 departments and faculties, provides multiple central services (admissions, scholarships, student records) to all graduate programs, provides numerous direct services for all graduate students, plus assistance for approximately 500 postdocs, and is charged with implementing the University's strategic vision for graduate education.

The Faculty's role is to:

- Provide leadership in graduate education, working in creative partnership with Colleges, Faculties, and Departments;
- Ensure that high standards of scholarship are maintained;
- Provide an exceptional graduate student experience through strategic initiatives in areas including targeted programming for both students and supervisors, internship placements and other professional development opportunities, and support for graduate student mental health and wellness; and,
- Administer over $31 million in scholarships and awards every year.

**Position**

The Team Lead holds a pivotal position within the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, overseeing a dedicated team of specialists responsible for maintaining the accuracy of student academic records. This role involves training, supervising, and advising the team on upholding institutional standards and policy adherence, encompassing various aspects of graduate student administration in awards.

Essential qualities for the Team Lead include flexibility and sound judgement, guiding the team through the technical complexities of policy and process intersections. They will empower their team to engage in discussions on policy and process matters with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, supervisors, department administrators, and academic leaders. Collaborating closely with campus stakeholders is a critical aspect of the role, and requires a solid understanding of graduate administration, technical proficiency in campus software solutions, and a keen awareness of the academic and administrative implications of each policy.

The Team Lead is expected to proactively research and understand emerging trends and best practices in graduate administration, both nationally and internationally. By staying informed about evolving practices and industry standards, they will ensure their team remains at the forefront of excellence in awards administration.

**Duties**

Provides senior-level technical advice and issue resolution:

- Anticipates client/stakeholder needs and proactively addresses concerns, identifying ways to improve processes/programs and or services.
- Provide advice, information and technical interpretation on complex technical matters by creating a common understanding of a deficiency, service gap or inefficiency with clients and/or stakeholders.
- Serves as the point of contact for escalation of issues, resolving issues within their own span of control and escalating when required.
