Reporting to the Manager, Financial Aid & Awards, the Team Lead, Financial Aid & Awards Compliance is responsible for the effective management, organization, direction, and development of strong, vibrant and trusted Awards Advising & Student Financial Aid Assistant teams, and providing the day-to-day oversight of processes and operations that facilitate the achievement of NorQuest College’s strategic goals.

The primary role of the Team Lead, Financial Aid & Awards Compliance, is to provide operational leadership to the Awards team and the Student Financial Aid Assistant team in the compliant management and administration of awards, student aid and foundational learning assistance.

**HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE**:
The Team Lead, Financial Aid & Awards Compliance will set and communicate appropriate expectations for performance and behaviour and managing those expectations within the Award team and Student Financial Aid Assistant team to meet operational objectives.

The incumbent also establishes and implements effective financial aid and award processes, acting as key internal liaison, collaborator, and negotiator with and for the College on funding-related matters, and high-quality decisions that meet the changing needs of students as well as NorQuest strategic enrolment goals, and NorQuest policies and procedure while remaining compliant with the external regulatory environment.

**Unit Supervision & Team Leadership 30%**
- Responsible for building and leading the Awards team and Student Financial Aid Assistant team to fulfill departmental mandate and contribute to the achievement of the college’s mission, including onboarding, supervising, training, evaluating, developing training plans, coaching, and timely communication. Responsible for team cohesiveness and resolution of human resources issues.
- Identify competencies for the Awards Advisors and Student Financial Aid Assistants to achieve optimal operational effectiveness and participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff.
- Provides operational leadership and guidance to Awards Advisors with identifying barriers to success in school and unexpected/emergency student financial issues, referrals to other Norquest service areas and departments and the strategic selection of award recipients in accordance with divisional and institutional strategic plans.
- Oversee Advisor or Assistant escalations by meeting with learners frustrated with service or decisions made.
- Continually identify and implement as appropriate, opportunities for improvement to workflow, service excellence, and evaluating direct reports to maintain service levels as required.
- Act as the Manager, Financial Aid & Award in times of Manager absence.

**Continuous Process Improvement 30%**
- Contributes to and manage process improvement initiatives that impact the Financial Aid and Awards unit.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Financial Aid and Awards to support strategic utilization of funding mechanisms, in alignment with institutional goals provide daily and ongoing oversight of all student aid related processes and NorQuest’s government funding allocations including Foundational Learning Assistance and Government of Alberta scholarships.
- Key participant in setting departmental goals and objectives to meet annual divisional plan.
- Responsible for identifying, implementing, managing and/or participating in Financial Aid and Awards operational projects, and College-wide initiatives to achieve College goals.
- Provide input and support for relevant NorQuest College policies, procedures and standard practices.

**Compliance and Reporting 20%**
- Responsible for collection and validation of annual reporting of costs and dates to external government systems such as PAPRS, BC SIMS, Foundational Learning, in collaboration with Manager.
- Provide daily oversight of all compliance related activities, including confirmation of registration and amend reporting, Foundational Learning reconciliation and refunds and ensuring awards are administered according to established donor agreements.
- Responsible for reporting under the terms outlined in Alberta Scholarship grant agreements, in collaboration with Manager.

**Internal and External Collaboration 20%**
- Build and establish highly effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders that foster collaboration and alignment to better support our students' needs and goals which entails engaging in regular communication, working groups and funding-related initiatives.
