Are you interested in supporting community wellness by helping build an Edmonton where all community members feel safe? This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the city of Edmonton. In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Healthy Street Operations Centre (HSOC) initiative. HSOC is a partnership between the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Police Service, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, Alberta Health Services and other community partners. The main focus of the Community Safety Liaison position within this partnership is to identify and respond to concerns which affect the community’s perception and/or realities of safety, and develop, implement and evaluate innovative responses to make Edmonton a safer city. The role will involve integrating a social lens and utilizing community development principles, practices, and approaches to work in a variety of settings and with a diverse range of individuals, groups, and professionals.

This position will involve collaborating with HSOC partners as well as a wide range of individuals, groups, community agencies, and organizations to develop data informed and evidenced based solutions responses to the safety concerns that impact HSOC identified communities.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

- Improve community safety by championing a balanced approach - one that complements enforcement through supports and capacity building
- Develop, implement and evaluate projects and strategies that meet the needs and circumstances of the community
- Use community development principles, practices and approaches to work in a variety of settings and with a diverse range of individuals, groups and professionals
- Engage citizens, organizations, and community groups to identify and address community issues and assist citizens to plan, develop and evaluate community actions and design innovative approaches to meet their needs
- Leverage analytics and cutting edge technology to assess areas of interest and focus
- Initiate, build and sustain effective working relationships with the enforcement agencies, other city services,, community members, colleagues and stakeholders
- Analyze information and situations and respond nimbly and responsively to arising needs and opportunities
- Provide public education on identified safety issues in order to engage citizens in awareness and action
- Share capacity building expertise and leadership through presentations, public meetings, facilitation and with senior administrative and elected officials
- Provide appropriate referrals to individuals and groups that need assistance
- Act as a key liaison and ‘entry point’ into the municipality - connecting the work to relevant City of Edmonton Sections, Departments and Resources
- Respond to council inquiries, write council reports and responses
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related human service degree. Master’s Degree is an asset
- Registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), if qualified as a social worker
- A minimum of 5 years experience in the community development field, including doing needs assessments, community engagement, strategy development, implementation and working with a broad range of stakeholders
- Skilled in multidisciplinary teamwork, community and organizational development and project management
- Knowledge of current community resources, social issues, social programs and crime trends in Edmonton
- Experience in engaging and animating a diverse range of communities
- Knowledge of community development principles, practice and models, evidence-based community safety strategies, interpersonal dynamics, superior knowledge of community resources and agencies
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to be confident, clear, respectful and sensitive
- Excellent political acumen is required
- Demonstrated skill in developing and sustaining relationships, multi-stakeholder collaboratives, animating communities, project management, meeting facilitation
- Ability to facilitate and implement creative, innovative and proactive strategies and actions to address social issues
- Excellent leadership and conflict resolution skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills are required
- Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
