The Community Events Liaison will be an instrumental part of supporting integration between the work of The High Level Office for Reconciliation and Anti-racism (HLO) and teams across the corporation. You will provide coordination and implementation support for engagements, gatherings and events hosted by and in-partnership with community-led initiatives. You will ensure the appropriate corporate partners are involved, provide systems navigation support, and be a lead in day-of event coordination. This role will have insight over the various events occurring within and across the corporation related to equity-deserving groups and ensure the goals of the High Level Office are achieved throughout those events.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to be Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent you will:

- Utilize a project management framework to implement successful and inclusive events and gatherings on behalf of the High Level Office. This may include: cultural history month celebrations, coordination of community conversations with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and/or Council, etc.
- Plan and coordinate a calendar of events throughout the year that is inclusive of the multitude of community-led initiatives and celebrations as well as advances the critical engagement needs of the High Level Office, Executive Leadership Team and City Council
- Provide comprehensive project (event) plans and briefings for the HLO team and work with cross-corporate colleagues to implement the plan that is on time and on budget
- Ensure appropriate processes and procedures are followed (working closely with the City’s protocol office, Indigenous Relations Office, and others) for events in city facilities and with community partners. This includes following guidelines, policies and procedures for city spaces, bylaws and practices
- Provide support for community-led (city-partnered) events and gatherings by removing barriers and providing system navigation support to external partners and community groups
- Where applicable, this role may be a key contact to support a new and/or growing organization on how to access and work with the City of Edmonton on events, festivals, or gatherings
- The projects, events or gatherings planned and coordinated by this position fit directly into the broader strategic goals of key strategies such as: the Anti-Racism Strategy, the TRC Municipal Response Plan, the Indigenous Framework, the Community Safety & Wellbeing Strategy, and the City Plan. As such, keen awareness of these plans and how these efforts will align will be an important piece of this work
- Support, consult or assist Department and Corporate initiatives, as required

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree (Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Recreation, or other related program)
- A minimum of five (5) years experience with event and engagement management, preferably with a large organization, institution or within government
- A minimum of three (3) years experience working directly with Indigenous and racialized communities and non-profits
- Demonstrated understanding or lived/living experience with diverse communities in Edmonton
- Significant understanding of Indigenous and Ethnocultural communities in Edmonton, their history, culture and current environment. Personal value base compatible with diversity and inclusion principles, GBA+, and human rights advocacy
- Knowledge of UNDRIP, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Calls for Justice
- Extensive knowledge and experience in developing and implementing complex projects and event plans with multiple stakeholders
- Strong organization, time management and prioritization skills
- Strong relationship builder; ability to build and nurture positive working relationships, both internally and externally
- Ability to critically analyze issues to make decisions, recommend viable and effective solutions and summarize and manage information.
- Demonstrated skills with Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms)
- Ability to integrate strategic planning and operational practice
- Exhibits professionalism and political acumen.
- Strong interpersonal skills such as communication (written & oral), negotiation, conflict resolution, collaboration, and diversity
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills
