Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join the **Marketing & Communications** team. Are you ready to be our **Communications Specialist **and make an impact in our community?

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The purpose of the Communications Specialist is to manage our external and internal communications and to deliver the key communications strategies set by the organization. This position’s areas of focus will be media relations, storytelling, copywriting, and activities the Marketing & Communications team set out for public awareness and resource generation. Results achieved by this key position are evident and will directly impact the organization’s ability to operate and meet participant needs. They will promote a positive public image and be responsible for the dissemination of information on the organization’s behalf. The Communications Specialist will have excellent writing, presentation, and strategizing skills.

**WHAT IS THE ROLE**

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Communications**
- Write copy for various media, including social, print, video, and online.
- Research, write, edit, and proof program participant success stories to be used as donor correspondence, blogs, and website content.
- Assist with writing speaking notes and speeches for events.
- Edit and proof work to ensure high editorial standards are met across all content outputs.
- Collaborate with team members and team leads of other departments to assess project needs and help with messaging.
- Drive brand consistency across all company communications.
- Support the development and implementation of the organization’s brand guidelines.
- Stay current on trends and competitors within the communications sphere.
- See projects through the whole creative lifestyle, from inception to deployment.
- Ensure that all staff participating in public engagements are coached on setting up the display booth and that all visuals and speaking notes are consistent with Bissell Centre’s brand and key messages.
- Assist with annual strategic communications on the organization’s social media platforms.
- Auditing website content to ensure accuracy.
- Provide communications planning and project management support for internal and external programs and campaigns.
- Manage communications services for various departments and marketing teams by preparing strategic communications plans and handling the implementation coordination and logistics.
- Create and edit content in a voice and tone that reflects our brand and is consistent with the Canadian Press Style Guide and our guiding editorial guidelines.
- Propose ways to improve internal and external communication processes.

**Media Relations**
- Develop and distribute media releases.
- Serve as a media spokesperson and maintain a positive public image for Bissell Centre.
- Respond to media inquiries and help coordinate interviews with Bissell Centre stakeholders.
- Manage day-to-day media relations/media requests related to marketing campaigns, donation drives etc.
- Triage media requests based on complexity and context to Executive Relations, Communications Coordinator, and Executive Officers.
- Assist with creating speaking notes, speeches, and debriefing materials for Bissell Centre staff for scheduled interviews and media events. Develop written materials including press releases, Q&A, and media standby.
- Statements on brand and corporate issues as required.
- Help coordinate media shoots on location or at Bissell events and contribute to conducting media interviews when applicable.
- Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets and keep a current media list.
- Build relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities to proactively pitch brand and corporate stories through social media outlets as appropriate.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Brand PR programs to support brand-building initiatives/innovation/corporate promotions.
- Guide to ensure coordination and communication of messages/news to internal and external audiences.
