Caseworker

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Caseworker is the main direct service provider at Kate Booth House. They provide support and case management to women and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing abuse.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
- Meeting with clients individually or in a group setting; develop and implements case management of assigned clients (i.e., regularly counsels in establishing goals, monitors progress, and prepares discharge plan).
- Presents reports and progress of clients at regularly scheduled shift change and case management meeting.
- Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation related to clients and initiates any new documentation; completes all reports required by the Ministry, The Salvation Army and other agencies.
- Refers clients to appropriate resources (internal & external) for the purpose of housing, financial, legal, employment, educational and other continuum needs.
- Perform intake and discharge procedures for clients as assigned.
- Models appropriate behavior: intervenes in crisis situations, provides domestic counseling, and advocates as required.
- Mediates conflict/violence within the house if it occurs.
- Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promotes dignity and respect.
- Liaises with the Police, Ministry, Court Personnel, Community Agencies, family and other staff members.
- Provides guidance and support to volunteers, students and newly hired staff.
- Scheduled on-call responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**HOURS**:Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:
- A certificate, diploma, or degree in social services, and one-year recent related experience.
**Experience**:
- Experience in supporting women and children who have experienced gender-based violence and/or abuse.
- An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may be considered.
**Required Skills/Knowledge**:
- Training in problem solving techniques.
- Relevant understanding of the situation of women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships, and their children.
- Understanding of the needs of victims of absolute homelessness and Domestic Violence
- Understanding of the Cycle of Violence
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to teach and organize group meetings
- Must be comfortable in using the computer and other database programs.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- First Aid and CPR certificate Level C.
- Food Safe Level 1
- Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults
- Must have highly developed self-care, time management, and organizational skills.
**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people (e.g. race, ethnicity, age, class, sexual preference).
- Familiarity with community resources and excellent advocacy skills.
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
