As the Indigenous Community Navigator, you will support the investigation of cases involving Indigenous persons and 2SLGBTQQIA people. You will also assist in the standardization of protocols, policies and practices to ensure that all cases of missing and murdered Indigenous persons and 2SLGBTQQIA people are fully investigated. Primary duties include: Provide services and support children, youth, families and the community to address barriers that are chronic and negatively impact their lives. Examine situations, develop strategies and work with team members when incidents arise. Identify potential risks, crisis or emergency situations and possible ways to mitigate. Create and review case plans and generate reports using established methods to document outcomes. Act as a resource for sworn members about programs and services for Indigenous youth/families and the community. Complete and submit applications and referrals for counselling, housing and other resources. Represent the Calgary Police Service (CPS) on committees and at events and create trust within the community. Attend team meetings and training as required. Help with the assessment and triage of intake referrals. Collect and maintain statistics.

Working Conditions: Exposure to emotionally disturbing events such as violence, serious injury, abuse and death.

Qualifications A 2-year diploma in Social Work and a minimum of 3 years experience working with Indigenous communities. A strong knowledge or experience working with removing barriers and supporting equity-deserving groups, including experience working with Indigenous persons. Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, paradigms, natural laws and impacts on Indigenous ways of being and knowing is required. Must have knowledge of Indigenous histories, languages, cultures, traditions, values, traditional territories, Truth and Reconciliation, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Sprit People (MMIWG2S) and contexts specific to Indigenous people in the Calgary and Treaty 7 area. Verifiable membership of an Indigenous Nation will be an asset. Previous experience working in a law enforcement or public safety environment is also an asset. Success in this position requires efficiency and thoroughness, impact and influence, planning and prioritizing/visionary and service orientation. An effective communicator with focus on results and the ability to build strong relationships.
