Destination Canada is looking for a **Manager, Economic Insights and Planning** **to join our team in Vancouver as we inspire travellers to explore Canada.
Destination Canada is seeking a dynamic individual to lead our new economic insight and planning team. As our Manager, Economic Insights & Planning, you'll delve into both the demand and supply sides of the tourism industry, leading analytics and modelling programs to understand the Canadian tourism sector, target markets, and the competition.
You'll need exceptional project management abilities, a keen analytical mind, a knack for translating data into actionable insights and the ability to lead and inspire a team of data analysts. With your expertise, you'll oversee the development of econometric models and projections, conduct qualitative and quantitative research, and deliver impactful insights related to tourism economics.

**DUTIES**:
- Manages Destination Canada’s tourism industry intelligence and economics research program, overseeing research on both the supply and demand sides of the industry.
- Oversees the delivery of business-critical annual products, including industry forecasts, analyses, and measurement plans.
- Ensures the timely and ongoing publication of key reports and statistics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Manages and oversees research projects, including budgets, timelines and the selection and evaluation of project suppliers and vendors.
- Directs qualitative and quantitative socio-economic tourism research, studies, and surveys, including assessments of Canada’s ability to compete in the global tourism marketplace.
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets economic and statistical data, developing models, projections, and forecasts to evaluate the impact of various factors on tourism, both domestically and globally.
- Prepares, reviews, and delivers research reports, advice, products and publications for guidance and strategic decision-making, both internally and with external stakeholders in the Canadian tourism industry.
- Develops a network of stakeholder relationships and partners, proactively consulting with industry stakeholders to identify trends, challenges, opportunities, and threats.
**Essential Qualifications**
**EDUCATION**:
Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, or other relevant discipline or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience. A Master’s degree would be an asset.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience conducting economic research, modeling and forecasting
- Experience managing and coaching a team
- Experience conducting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research
- Experience in managing large-scale research projects
- Experience in program evaluation
- Experience in socio-economic, macroeconomic, and market research
- Experience producing and publishing research papers and products
- Experience in the tourism industry is an asset
**KNOWLEDGE**:
- Advanced knowledge of economic theories and principles
- Strong knowledge of statistics, econometrics, and statistical analysis
- Knowledge of various econometric models, tools and techniques
- Advanced professional knowledge of qualitative and quantitative socioeconomic research principles and methodologies
- Knowledge of program evaluation methodologies
- Knowledge of the tourism industry and its domestic and international stakeholders
**ABILITIES**:
- Excellent project management abilities
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
- Ability to derive insights from research and communicate them in a compelling way
- Leadership and coaching skills
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R)
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Bilingualism is an asset (English/French)
