The Community & Indigenous Relations Advisor will create and build on Indigenous community relationships by listening, respecting, and including communities; as a ‘connector,’ identify assets and resources in communities, or barriers to training for employment, and make connections for referrals and/or recommendations for support. The Advisor acts as an ambassador for WBF; engaging with key stakeholders through professional interactions and supporting women through the process of connecting with WBF to explore program options and workshops.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Community & Indigenous Relations Manager, the Advisor will be responsible to:

- Build community and public awareness of Women Building Futures (WBF) to promote programs, workshops, information sessions, presentations, and community activities.
- Organize engagement activities (e.g., Open houses, meetings with local organizations, presentations).
- In urban and rural communities, build strong relationship between the company and the community by fostering relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensure that the relationships being built will include members from across the organization to ensure that they continue and become true partnerships.
- Ensure that all engagement initiatives are met and that funders are satisfied with those efforts; produce and/or contribute to reports in conjunction with funders as required.
- Actively support WBF’s engagement of key stakeholders in exploring, preparing for, and successfully entering the Workforce
- Utilize databases, to keep accurate account of community relations and engagement work.
- Represent WBF at various events and networking opportunities that align with organizational objectives (Communities of interest).
- Participate in Indigenous community events and include opportunities for staff and students to join.
- Work collaboratively with teams to stay up to date on projects updates.
- Provide written and verbal presentations as required.
- Contribute to the Indigenous Relations Strategy to increase Indigenous awareness and inclusion across the organization.
- Support with staff learning, including community consultations, classroom, and land-based learning.
- Frequent travel by air and vehicle: out of the office meetings and overnight travel may be required.

Education & Experience
- 5+ years’ work experience in related field.
- Experience with Indigenous populations; knowledge of available community resources for Indigenous applicants and students.
- Relevant undergraduate and graduate degrees or diploma (Lived experience in an Indigenous community or communities would be considered an equivalent asset).
- Evidence of ongoing learning in related area - Community Engagement, Community Relations, Business and Community Development.
- Exposure or knowledge of social purpose or Not-for-profit organizations.
- Experienced in and comfortable with public speaking/facilitation and speaking with job seekers and community leaders.
- Extensive cross-functional track record working across departments to find creative solutions.
- History of meeting business development targets.
- History of managing travel expenditures.
