This position provides advice for Indigenous cultural, financial, academic, career, and holistic supports. Responsibilities will also include working with students to help them with transition supports into a post-secondary environment, supporting learners through events, facilitating guests to the MPC, advising leadership on key trends and issues experienced by Indigenous learners, and more.

The Indigenous Student Advisor will attend presentations and fairs that provide meaningful information to students and staff. Reporting to the Manager, Miyo-pimâtisiwin Centre (MPC) the primary responsibility of the Indigenous Student Advisor is to advise Indigenous students on matters related to their academic studies at NorQuest College.

**HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE**
- Organize and deliver presentations, attend fairs and represent the College at various events, conferences, meetings, agencies, etc.
- Contribute to development and implementation of the Indigenization Strategy.
- Provide service management to Indigenous funded students (update learner plans, goal changes, courses, attendance, progress & course swaps)
- Liaise between student, funder, and various college programs & service staff.
- Provide course and program information for prospective students & external partners.
- Connect with funders regarding funding matters, student progress, and attendance & program withdrawals.
- Provide prospective students with information on Student Financial Aid options.
- Meet with prospective students and provide academic advising to aid students with career goal determination.
- Provide information & referrals for support services, Indigenous community opportunities, cultural and holistic supports, and RBC Indigenous Student Mentorship Program
- Provide appropriate advocacy services.
- Connect students with cultural events, ceremonies, feasts, etc.,
- Liaise with contacts in Office of the Registrar, Student Services, Navigators, Recruiters, and other college areas in order to ensure clear communication and understanding of each department’s roles and interdependencies.
- Support the Manager of the MPC as required, including acting for him/her in their absence.

**WHAT YOU BRING**
- A related post-secondary diploma is required in a related field (Education, Social Work or Native Studies). Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Equivalencies may be considered.
- 3-5 years of experience is required; experience in a post-secondary education environment would be an asset.

- Strong operational expertise, and ability to develop systems and procedures.
- Excellent relationship management, communicating with a cross-section of students with diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
- Personal communication style that is professional, thoughtful, confident and experience driven.
- Critical thinker and detail orientated to organize time effectively with strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Maintain student/staff confidentiality procedures in handling student and staff information in accordance with FOIP.

**SALARY**:$54,028 - $70,193 annually, reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full time permanent AUPE position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
