The Calgary Drop-In Centre (the DI) is more than emergency shelter. We provide emergency shelter, health services and housing programs to people who need support. Our programs and services connect people to permanent housing that meets their individual needs. Rooted in community and fueled by kindness, the DI proudly serves as part of the Homeless-Serving System of Care.

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Emergency Shelter, the role of a Coordinator is to ensure the safety of all clients and reporting staff in the building. This is through both structured procedures and general interaction with reporting staff and clients. Every client of the DI should be actively working toward the goal of housing; and a Coordinator should assist the supervisor and Adult Care Workers so, clients may achieve this goal. You will assist in assessing the needs of each individual client and collaborate with other Supervisors, ACW’s, Case Management, Diversion, Supportive Housing and the Medical team. All interactions with clients will be done in a trauma informed manner and a client centered approach.

**Time Commitment**

40 hours per week, with 5 days on and 2 days off from 2 PM to 10 PM. Some unusual hours may be required from time to time as the need arises. Attending meetings scheduled outside of regular work hours is required. Schedule may be altered at the discretion of management.

**Job Duties**
- A Coordinator will conduct themselves in a professional manner when dealing with clients, members of the community, volunteers, emergency services and staff of the DI
- Responsible for day to day Emergency Shelter operations and programs
- Facilitates training and resolves staffing issues in tandem with Human Resources department and Manager
- Attend and participate in all required meetings
- Provide support, training and coaching to assist the floor supervisors in performing their duties effectively
- Maintain a presence in the building and clearly communicate the guidelines of the centre to clients, members of the community, volunteers, emergency services and staff of the DI
- Coordinate with other Coordinators and pass along all required information
- Communicates with the medical team regarding clients’ health and distribution of medicine.
- Performs various administrative tasks which include: answering phones, relaying messages, data entry, creating schedules, payroll, timesheets, etc.
- Delegates various duties to floor supervisors, staff and volunteers
- Be the point person in emergency situations
- Performs other related duties as required
- Schedules all staff who report to you, including Adult Care Workers. Must ensure that the building is adequately staffed on a daily basis
- Completes thorough written performance evaluations of staff yearly
- Complete and maintain logs and progression details on the DI database
- Review pervious logs and progression details
- Maintenance Requests
- IT Requests
- Maintain and record data as required for the position, such as Building Statistics
- Communicate absenteeism within the guidelines of the DI sick policy
- Provides input on existing or future programs at the DI

**Required Competencies**
- Completion of (or working towards) a college or university program in any of the following; Human Services, Community Support, Social Service Work, Psychology, Sociology, Addictions or Health-related discipline is considered an asset
- Proven leadership experience
- Previous work experience in a social service environment is a definite asset
- A combination of education/practical experience may be considered
- Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use
- Understanding of the needs of marginalized adults and homelessness issues
- Experience working in distress and/or high-stress situations, which may include emergency response
- Strong customer service orientation would be ideal
- Eager to learn new systems and adopt improved best practices
- Proficient use of 2-way radios, computers, Microsoft Office and any other database software(s) used to track service delivery; proficient in Office 365 and Office Suite 2016
- Knowledge of the CCTV monitoring system and the base building fire system is a definite asset
