**Responsibilities**:
The medical secretary will provide administrative support and provide excellent customer service in all of their interactions. The incumbent will provide front-line support via telephone and electronically to patients referred to the ALS clinic in terms of making appointments, referrals faculty. The incumbent will interact with other secretaries in the neuromuscular unit to ensure seamless patient care and will oversee the clinical administrative activities for a consulting neurologist. The incumbent will interact with other staff, students and other stakeholders, including senior laboratory personnel as appropriate. The incumbent will assist with resolving general inquiries, maintaining files, organizing schedules and coordinating meetings. The medical secretary will perform word processing in adherence with standard procedures, undertake all aspects of OHIP billings, and perform other general office functions as required from time to time.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Community College Diploma in an administrative field

**Experience**:

- 5+ years’ experience providing administrative support and customer service in an academic consulting office environment

- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with careful attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements
- Keyboarding skills with the ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on work assignments
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with a genuine customer service orientation
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs, including fluency in Cerner, Powerchart, IBIS and associated OHIP billing programs
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including operating within shared calendars
- Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
- Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
